This is for women who are breastfeeding, will be breastfeeding soon, have breastfed in the past, and/or are extended breastfeeding advocates or at least open minded about it

I just joined a new yahoo group for moms like me who are pro-breastfeeding and want to share advice, experiences, support, etc. Its a new group, and we could use more members. If you fit the above description, please check out the group. Knowledge is power! Breastfeeding is best for our kids, and raising healthy and intelligent children is good for the whole world! If we can help even ONE mom choose to breastfeed, or choose not to give up too early, we will have accomplished something great! So please check it out!

This group was not created to ridicule anyone. It was made to share positive support amongst moms who do and experience similar things. This question was not an invitaion to be NEGATIVE. I didnt put ANYONE down. This question was an invitation to learn, share, and love. If you cant do those things, please dont bother answering this question because we dont want people like that in our group anyway.

ROCK ON!!!
I plan on breastfeeding my baby when its born. I have watched my mother and sister breastfeed all of their children and I think that it is a wonderful bonding process as well as a great start for a healthy future.

I agree- breastfeeding was the best thing that I did with my daughter, and carried on for 18 months. It was amazing.
No need to worry about formula being out too long, being incorrectly prepared, being the wrong temperature, no need to worry about sterilising and washing endless amounts of bottles etc- whilst I understand that some parents HAVE to use formula because of genuine medical problems, I know that breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world!

You go sister girl! I had to stop breastfeeding my daughter at 6 months because she bit me so much -- and it was really difficult because I'm a member of La Leche league! It's my job to help other people breastfeed but it was awful when she wouldn't stop clamping and tearing. (Ack - having flashbacks)
Formula is INSANELY expensive. Can't believe how much it costs! I breastfed my son til he was old enough to drink whole milk.

Great idea. When I was BFing and EBFing my two DD's support sites were my lifeline. It's so hard when you believe you're doing what's best by keeping that BFing relationship going for as long as you can and no one around you supports it. Kudos for the support.

According to leading experts in the field, as long as a mother breastfeeds at least the first 6 months, she's given her baby a great start which is what they want to promote!!!!!! I resent the implication that if you don't breastfeed til your child is 2-5 yo you've failed as a mother. This simply is not true. There is no reason, and no medical proof that breastfeeding a child beyond 6 months does any more than create more of a dependence and bond with the mother. I encourage any pregnant woman thinking about breastfeeding to do it. BUT don't think you have to breastfeed til your child enters kindergarten for it to be good for them or helpful to their immune system. I'm mom to 3.

I think that is great, as long and you dont put down the women who choose not to. I had a very hard time, and my daughter still got sick even though being breast fed, was hospitalized and my milk dried up from stress, I didn't even know that could happen. But I do think a lot of women are ridiculed who choose not too, it is a choice and neither one is bad.
