You know how some people have them out and some people have them in...Why?

I read it's genetic. I don't know if that's true, but I know all of my kids, and my niece have these half-in-half-out bellybuttons, so I guess it's possible. My baby book says it has absolutely NOTHING to do with how the umbilical cord is cut.

There are a few reasons. My son was born with whats called an umbilical hernia- and when it healed there was a little extra skin resulting in an outie.

Another explanation is that sometimes the cord is not cut as close as it should be, and when it heals- a little bit of skin protrudes.

I guess it's just the way the cut is and the scar heals. I wonder if you could specify that when the doctor is cutting the cord?

Since I was pregnant, I haven't had a belly at all and my kid is 3 now. The belly scar is no longer over the belly dip. It's the strangest thing.... it is like that show with the alien kid Kyle, he didn't have belly.

i think it might be the way the doctor cuts the cord, but mostly i think it's luck unless it's an outie then it's bad luck lol
