I saw a question concerning spanking and it got me thinking. In the past decade, there has been much attention paid to spanking children, and as a result many parents have stopped using this as a form of discipline.

It seems, however, (through my observations), that many parents take the "do not spank" idea to mean that discipline in general is a bad thing. As a result, it seems to me that many children are not being disciplined.

Do you feel that this has become a problem? Also, it seems that many parents are now expecting schools to do more disciplining that was once the realm of the parent. If you think this is a problem, do you feel that it is contributing to this attitude?

It's possible that my observations are completely wrong, however I would like to know what other people think on these topics.

I feel it's important to have the same basic rules at both Dad and Mom's house if Dad and Mom are divorced or no longer live together. They need to learn to knock if a door is closed, not just barge in; to not borrow anything without asking the owner's permission; etc. Got any tips for "good" rules for kids to obey in both households?

I'm just wondering, trying to get a poll on what the avg. parent thinks of themselves.

In your mind, are you a good parent, and have you ever learned something about parenting, or are you just going off of what you think you should do?

I'm just wondering those questions cause I see a LOT of answers here that sound legit, but to a child are possibly the worst ways to be raised.

I havnt been spanked since i was about 10 yrs old. Lately ive been getting into some trouble at school. its cus the teachers r all stupid. Anyway, I kept getting DT and in school suspensions cus Ive been getting in word fights with teachers, but thats because i dont take crap from people. Anyways my mom and dad keep grounding me and stuff. They said obviusly grounding wasnt working so if i keep it up there are gonna be more serious conseqenses. I know wen I was younger that ment a spanking but i didnt think they ment that. Anyways, I got into it with a teacher on fri cus she was rude to me and i called her some stuff i shouldnt have but she deserved, and i got suspended, only this time out of school. My dad spanked me, over my pants just with his hand but still it hurt and its embarasing! and im grounded all damn week that im suspended. School said next time i fight ill be expelled and my dad said i BETTER not.

Im 13, im too old for spankings! How do I get him not to. Oh im a guy btw

She went with a friend of hers and the mother was drunk when she allowed our kids to receive a tatoo and she said she was the parent of both kids. What should be my next recourse of action? It's the size of an apple - and it's a Unicorn. First and foremost she is going to regreat it so BAD.

It does happen people. Thanks for the info. Why is this so hard to do. If the person is so important, why not marry or atleast get engaged to him or her. Geez.
See below:
"In a case of first impression that several family law attorneys say will have a broad impact on custody disputes, Dallas' 5th Court of Appeals ruled in Peck v. Peck that it's within a trial court's discretion to ban a parent's bed partner, at least when the child is staying with that parent. The ruling reaffirms a trial court's power to issue such permanent injunctions that are aimed at protecting "the best interest of the child."

The July 13 opinion concerns Michael Peck and Pamela Peck, who filed for divorce in Collin County, Texas. The final order signed by visiting Judge John L. McCraw permanently enjoined both parents from having a person of the opposite sex stay overnight while the parent is "in possession of" the couple's 9-year-old son, according to the opinion. "

For example, it's important to be neutral in kid squabbles and take corrective action without seeming to be biased or unfair. It's never a good idea to favor one kid over the others.

of the opposite sex. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We are divorced. But my kids are 2 and 5 and wander at night. My husband believes that itis perfectly OK if the kids walk in on him boinking his latest conquest. I don't. I date but I don't have anyone staying over on my half of the month.

I am asking for information from people who successfully placed this in their orders. How did you do it? What evidence did you present? Thanks.

I don't know what it is with children, but I apparently have zero patience with them.

I was in Jack in the Box this afternoon ordering a Sourdough Jack and Root Beer, and in the middle of the transaction a
very energetic little girl from possibly the Ukraine
or Romania comes bounding up to the register and
interrupts the cashier as she is handing me back my
money. She begins peppering the cashier with endless
questions about an order she hasn't even placed yet.
Not to mention the fact that she was there without any
warning whatsoever, like a ghost, and you can
certainly see my frustration. At least with adults
they usually announce their presence by walking up
slowly to the counter and standing there respectfully.

Any idea as to why children do this repeatedly? Even ghosts appear to have some semblance of respect when they announce their presence, but this particular child had no concept of such a thing.

What were your initial thoughts when your child asked you for pet rats? Had they done their research? Did they beg? Has your opinion on rats changed since you got the rats?

Did your child eventually stop taking care of the rats? Did it become your responsibility?

Do you enjoy spending time with the rats? Have you gotten more rats since the first rats?

Thanks for all who answer.

Apparently all his friends have profiles and chat to each other. I have lied about his age in order to pass him off as a 13 yr old. His profile is private. I monitor all his activity on the net and the computer is in plain view of the family. I admit lying about his age is wrong, but where is the harm if he's only chatting to his friends?
