I don't know what it is with children, but I apparently have zero patience with them.

I was in Jack in the Box this afternoon ordering a Sourdough Jack and Root Beer, and in the middle of the transaction a
very energetic little girl from possibly the Ukraine
or Romania comes bounding up to the register and
interrupts the cashier as she is handing me back my
money. She begins peppering the cashier with endless
questions about an order she hasn't even placed yet.
Not to mention the fact that she was there without any
warning whatsoever, like a ghost, and you can
certainly see my frustration. At least with adults
they usually announce their presence by walking up
slowly to the counter and standing there respectfully.

Any idea as to why children do this repeatedly? Even ghosts appear to have some semblance of respect when they announce their presence, but this particular child had no concept of such a thing.

Children don't have fully formed brains like adults and so some concepts appear alien to them. It is why they have adults to look after them! You could have tried gently but firmly saying "sorry, but I was talking first" and then ignoring any protests.

You dont need to ask this question here, you could have looked at what the parents were doing, if they were paying attention to where the little girl was, and they didnt correct her for interrupting your conversation, then they were/are people of little class and/or upbringing, this is a result of parents not insisting that their children show respect to others, especially adults, If they werent paying attention to where she was, this is an indication they are NOT good parents, this is how child molesters and kidnappers get away with the crimes they commit. RESPECT, HONOR, CONSIDERATION, these are things of the past, family values are no longer important.

Kids I think are now more disrespectful than they were when I was little because society makes it more difficult to discipline them. Society has changed alot and so has upbringing. Alot of kids now act as though they are entitled to things and can be more lazy. School and their peers can affect their behavior a great deal because they pick up alot of behaviors from there. Certain medical conditions like ADHD can also affect how kids interact with adults and other children...

Not all children do this. It is the parents' responsibility to teach their child to be polilte and respectful. It sounds like you have zero patience with disrespectful individuals, not children themselves.

Lack of discipline by the parents. Too many parents wanting to be their child's friend instead of a parent.

its because they feel like they have something over adults.like they have an edge and they know what pushes us overboard. its about being stern and not putting up with it but with a smile on your face. either by taking a favorite toy or not letting them go anywhere eventually they will take you seriously

Yeah, thats happened to me. Except the boy was homeschooled. Some children who are homeschooled dont learn when they are and arent supposed to talk. Their parents usually let them off the hook when they are talking and the kids rudely interrupt.
Where-as the teachers in public school will scold them or yell.
