No the age limit is there for a reason. There are a lot of people on the Internet pretending to be somebody they aren't - and not all of them are nice. You should have him check out https://www.imbee.com/ instead which is geared more towards kids. :-)

To be on myspace, you have to be 15 (or 14). There is no age for 11, and he can't tell the truth. I would get him to private his profile (if he hasn't already), and I would get a myspace myself and get on his friends list so you can make sure all the people on his friends list is people he knows in real life.
My cousin is 10 and has his age as 15. He has his dad on myspace too, so it's not that big of a deal.

There are lots of nasty people that get onto myspace and will want him to add them. I dont think its a good idea for him to be on it at all. I have a 10 year old and would never let him on it. I have a myspace account so I can chat with real friends and family, but I always get invites from women and men who have nasty bad profiles that he will be able to see.

We had the same problem and had him give us his passowrd so we could remove his myspace account.
He was 13 at the time and said he was 17 . We discovered he had a 30 year old man on his list with whom he 'chatted'. That ended REALLY fast. We forbid him to use the computer for non- school use ( yes someone watched him) until he was 14.

Well, I wouldn't continue to let him use it. For one thing, if Tom (the "owner" of myspace) finds out that your son lied about his age to get on, your son's account can be deleted. However, while he is also on the site, there is the fact that he can click on and hear songs with foul language, or try to find people to talk to, and come across someone who has "adult" pictures on their profile, or that he can wind up talking to someone who is lying to him that he or she is just another kid the same age as your son, and try to get your son to give out information like phone number, address, or anything else they can use to get your son to meet in person, and then abuse him. At 11, your son probably isn't able to understand the dangers of what he is doing, so that is why you need to keep close tabs on what he is doing, and maybe help him find some "safer" places, like possibly Yahooligans, for him to go.

Everything on the internet is dangerous, esp to a young child. If you do decide to let him keep it then you can always keep it set to private and make sure he only adds people that he knows. If it's private then people that aren't his friends can't look at his profile. You can always get on his account and monitor it. I don't know why peolpe always say that Myspace is so bad. It's only bad if you let it. I would just keep an eye on it.

Why is an 11 year old on MySpace? You're the parent and you need to take control.
Dangers: Sexual Predators and Inappropriate Material
The computer should be in the family room where YOU monitor all computer activity.

Gee maybe YOU should have been supervising his activities online huh? Some of the dangers is that if he allows "just anyone" to be on his "friends" list he can get some "unsavory" characters, pedophiles etc. on his list. I suggest mom and dad pull the computer out of son's bedroom and put it where he can be supervised when on the net.

What were to happen, if say your child got into the explicit pornographic section on my site and you saw this and decided to get bent out of shape with me?
Please take control of your child's computer activities, and perhaps a lesson on the effects of dishonesty may be appropriate at this time.
