When his friends cut school and your son feels left out, will you lie for him then as well? Will you tell the school he's out sick so he can just go do what everyone else is doing, even though everyone (YOU especially) know it's wrong?
I'm sorry, but I have a problem with this. I can see that you are an involved parent, care about your child and monitor computer use, etc. so it *is* a fairly safe environment, but the deeper message here, is that you're willing to lie so your child can do what "everyone else" is doing.
Can you find another chat/video board that is appropriate and intended for his age group, get him registered there, and have him tell his friends about it? I'm not terribly familiar with the Bebo community, but if it's anything like MySpace, there's probably a LOT of stuff on there you wouldn't want your 10y/o accessing, accidentally or otherwise.
Set the example now-- lying is NOT acceptable, and there are some things in life you just cannot do or have until you reach the required age.

I'd say that maybe 10 is a little young...but if you can see exactly what he is doing I don't see the harm in it...but you know...they have age limits for a reason.
However, I just recently got a Bebo page and I don't see anything wrong with it...you only talk to your friends and stuff so it's no big deal. Just make sure that he knows that he can't give out any personal info because people can get it. So just make sure that what he's doing on it isn't bad and everything should be good.
However, Myspace is a different story. I don't have one and never will. They are stupid and dangerous.

Well, if you lie for him now, he'll probly think that he is able to lie all the time more.....that isnt good now is it?
I dont think that it was a very good idea, there are many people who lie. Your son could be tricked and someone might say, "yeah i'm your friend we are in homeroom" then he'll be talking to a stranger.....II had MySpace, and someone was trying to be me, and my family and friends thought that the person was really me! People like your son can be easily tricked especially at 10 yrs. old.
Just get him a Club Penguin account. Its free, and for kids his age. Its a chat room, except there are settings where you can set it so he can only use the preset sentences. Some of them are like "hey what are you up to". None of the preset sentences are personal questons.

Your son is only 10, let him be a child, you are allowing him to be exposed in conversation with children 13 yrs and older. What example are you setting for him? You should not lie about your child's age so that he can participate in activities for older children. That's not right, and the example is poor.

If the rules say he should be 13, there exist legal issues with it first, and possibly a good reason for it as well.

Let him know the boundaries. Make sure that you are always wandering around when hes on the net. If he exit or minimizes something quick.. Erase the account.
