I have a 13 year old and a 7 year old, who I am convinced are addicted to TV and electronic games. I would like to find out from those with similar problems how they handled it. Is there any equipment that would monitor TV usage by household member and enable usage time? A big problem I have is finding alternaitve activities. How do you respond when they say "Well what do you want me to do instead?"

I have neighbors (husband and wife) that live in a basement apartment directly under me. They smoke quite heavily. when i wake in the morning it smells like they have been right in my house smoking all night! I have a 3 year old daughter at home. Do you think that their heavy smoking will effect her health or is it just me being paranoid?
I have mentioned it to my landlord many times. He has begged me not to move, as I am a great tennant. But there seems to be no alternative .
any thoughts?

One of mine is cutting sandwiches with a pizza cutter. It's so fast and easy when you have a lot of them to cut.

How many people out there think that expecting parents should attend parenting classes? Not the regular classes they have now, but like actually classes that give you a licence to be a parent? Why I ask is because I recently met a lady who has a little boy who is 7 months and she is not a very good mother. She yells at her baby all the time, she swears around him, smokes around him, leaves him wet diapers for long periods of times, and hes always dirty looking. The worst part is, she has no idea what he wants when he crys, she doesn't know if hes crying for food. My little one is 4 months and I can tell when shes crying for food, or crying cause shes just really tired, I know her crys. I think 7 months a mother should be able to tell the difference. Shes not being physically abusive to him but I really think she has no idea how to be a mom.

Has anyone been to a Great Wolf Lodge? Thinking about going to the new one at Kings Island for my son's 5th birthday. I think we can get a deal for a family suite at 149 a night. We may go for 2 nights, worth the $$$?

I have a six year old son. I am just wondering if he is EVER going to let me take a shower or use the bathroom in peace? He won't come in my room ... or call my name.. and I'll think he's watching TV or playing his video game.. so I try to get a quick shower in or try to handle "bathroom business"... and it's like he has radar... So to all of the veteran parents... I am just wonering... if EVENTUALLY... he will let me have the 5 minutes I try to steal every now and then?.....

Thanks

I know it's a weird question, sorry, but I'm widow, my two kids are about to enroll in a yoga for kids course and I don't dare to ask my female friends.
My girl, seven years old say they are without undies. When my boy, 5, heard his sister would use a leotard, he wanted to use one, too.

Anyone got any good reasons that aren't nasty to send my aupair back home. she's good with my daughter, but she's really irritating me. she follows me around like a lost puppy = I went in the kitchen and made some toast, she stood next to my, as if she'd never seen anyone do it before.same when i washed up!

I've been babysitting since I was like 10 and I do it a lot (at least twice a weekend). I've always been paid about 3 dollars an hour no matter how many kids. I feel like this is not enough and I think I should set a standard. What should this standard be depending on how long and how many kids and stuff?

Even when children are @ the age where the opposite sex has "cooties", do u think its a good idea 4 an adult, even in a jokingly manner, to discredit the opposite sex, by confirming things by saying: "Yeah, boys are bad.", or "Girls stink!", or "Boys are dumb.", or "Girls are silly.", etc. Or is it okay, as long as its done in jest, and presumed to not be taken seriously? Please be honest.

We have 2 young children and are in our 30's we have thought about having another but have also thought about doing foster care to adopt. The one thing I worry about is getting a child that has been sexually abused and then them trying to abuse our children. Have you ever had this happen? Can you choose the ages of the children you get to do care for? We would really like to help a child that needs us but we have a lot of fears. Hope someone can answer these questions for us. Thanks!!!

My husband likes to listen to rap. He doesn't understand why I have a problem with him cranking it around our two year old. Just as an example he was listening to the speakerbox cd the other day, and in the 10 minutes I was fighting with myself to ask him to turn it off.... the N word was said over a dozen times. Among numerous "cuss" words. What would he do if he had our son in the store and that word flew out of his mouth?! I don't like it. And I don't know how to get the point across to him. Any suggestions?

(and not everyone is using the syytem cause they are lazy) YET no one gets angry when their tax dollars go to fund abortions?
You would rather have your tax dollars go for killing unborn babies and providing abortions but hate the fact that tax dollars might go to feed a child whose mother just came out of a bad relationship and needs welfare to get on her feet again? MAKES NO SENSE TO ME!

I have a 16 year old living here (he is my bf's son) and he has a video game that I tell him like 25 time a day to turn it down because I hate the sound of it and he always turns it down and then turns it right back up again as soon as I leave the room. The problem is that I can hear it in my room with both his door and my door closed and down a
15 foot long hallway, but my bf and him both say it isn't that loud. Am I just being picky? Am I overreacting? I have bought him wireless headphones so that he can listen to the game as loud as he wants without me having to hear it, but he broke them and even when they weren't broken he complained that they hurt his ears to wear them so he wouldn't wear them all the time. What I need to know is, should I just shut up and deal with the sound or am I right in getting mad about having to hear it all the time?

I have bought the DVD "Cars" from Disney...apparently an innocent movie on cars...for my children aged 3 and 5 years... With certain parts my 5-year-old son got shocked (e.g. the virus-like machines destroying cars and the police car chasing the auto star).
We need to have later a long discussion on those points in order to calm my son. He is really a pure, non-contaminated little boy, and I find this kind of material too aggressive for children.
In my opinion, the society we "enjoy" now is built upon many things, where what our children see and experience has a BIG influence on how they behave later on... I cannot blame Disney for all the evil in our society, but I really think the products they offer have the potential to seriously damage (or at least have a bad influence on) little children personality and mind.
I know parents who do not care, but they are really not good examples to follow, in my opinion... (they are "a blind guiding a blind"). What do you think?
