I have bought the DVD "Cars" from Disney...apparently an innocent movie on cars...for my children aged 3 and 5 years... With certain parts my 5-year-old son got shocked (e.g. the virus-like machines destroying cars and the police car chasing the auto star).
We need to have later a long discussion on those points in order to calm my son. He is really a pure, non-contaminated little boy, and I find this kind of material too aggressive for children.
In my opinion, the society we "enjoy" now is built upon many things, where what our children see and experience has a BIG influence on how they behave later on... I cannot blame Disney for all the evil in our society, but I really think the products they offer have the potential to seriously damage (or at least have a bad influence on) little children personality and mind.
I know parents who do not care, but they are really not good examples to follow, in my opinion... (they are "a blind guiding a blind"). What do you think?

I don't feel sensor ship is right in my opinion, my daughter grew up with no sensor ship and she is perfectly fine now. She doesn't due drugs and isn't pregnant, she is getting straight A's and is mentally stable. I don't really care what she watches or listens too, even when she was a little girl I taught her what was right to do and what was wrong and she got a larger grasp on reality this way.

I agree completely. I have no problem with Disney or Disney/Pixar movies. I grew up watching them and still enjoy them. However, I am more aware to the subliminal adult content and the obvious jokes that could be misunderstood by the adult mind. I was appalled after watching
"The Incredibles!" I thought it was horrible for a movie rated PG.
I do not have children yet, but I do work in a daycare center with children ages 16 months to 6 yrs. You'd probably be amazed at how many kids thought this was a "good" movie and even more surprised at the parents who thought that as well. To add to this, I have four and five year olds come up to me and tell me how good they think Spiderman, Superman, Hulk, Fantastic Four, etc. are!!! I may not be certain, but aren't these movies all PG13 (at least)? What are 4 and 5 year olds doing watching them? I didn't watch PG13 until I was 10 or 11. My parents didnt' allow it.
R wasn't allowed until I was 14 or 15 and mom or dad had to watch it with me. And throughout my childhood and adolescent years they explained the difference between reality/fantasy and right/wrong. I think that's a big thing right now with youth not being responsible for their actions and/or their lack of respect.

This is why my parents pre-screened movies and I will too. My son is still a toddler so there is no reason for him to watch television. He might catch a bit of go diego with his cousin-but at this age it's not appropriate to be in front of the television all day like I see with other children. I have in laws that are appalled that I haven't taken my son to see Happy Feet or Cars! I just laugh at them because they think my son will be damaged from missing out on this!

my daughters saw cars, one 9 and one 3, they thought both parts you mentioned were funny, and I don;t feel they harmed them at all.
have you seen Happy Feet? If your children were disturbed by an animated car chase scene and a machine destroying a car then you need to think about how you are going to discuss religious propaganda, homosexual undertones, global warming and the killing off of animals and the conditions that animals find themselves living in when placed or raised in zoos. Neither of my children were shocked or disturbed, but I was a bit by the zoo part and i absolutely do not like being preached to in a kids movie.

I totally understand your point. Now personally, I didn't think that Cars was too bad. I have seen MUCH worse. My problem with Cars is that they called Radiator Springs "Hillbilly Hell". That's another story.
I have friends who let their kids watch anything and everything they want including violent movies, playing violent games, etc. My children are still very innocent as we restrict what they view. Violent, scary scenes affect them (and are turned off) and I'm not sure that's a bad thing!

I find Disney movies highly inappropriate for children under say....12! What volatile issues! The last disney movie I saw, "Lion King", presented themes of parental death, murder, run away children, etc. Not for my kids!!!
I do think more child-appropriate shows like Dora and Blue's Clue have benefits in moderation!
