For my oldest (9) it took about 3-4 months. My youngest (2) had her card faster, within 2 months.

I don't remember exactly, but I think that the hospital just files the paperwork for you. Then, it is up to you to contact the Social Security office and finish the job. Same thing with the birth certificates, you have to go down to the office of Vital Statistics and get those yourself. Nothing is easy!!

As an adoptive parent, I can tell you that my daughters SS numbers were not changed because of trying to keep parents from "tracking" down the children later, it was because of their scumbag parents had committed so much fraud in the past. The bio parents had stolen so much from the kids, and did not have a problem using their numbers for all kinds of crap. In reading the posts on here, I see a lot of negative comments about the adoptive parents. Sounds like you think the adoptive parents just drove down a street, seen a kid and said I will have that one....it does not work that way.

it should arrive soon, the length of time differs with each state but usually by 3 months you should have it , if you don't go to your local SS office with baby's birth certificate and medical id card and id bands from hospital and have them look it up and check it out for you

THe hospital will take care of everything. I can't remember how long it was until I got my sons but everything will be taken care of. You will get the ss card and the birth certificate.

Call the hospital! I did because I couldn't figure out when I would get my son's either. They told me that they send out the information at the end of every month, then it takes a few weeks to process...just call them to make sure that they did get the info. sent!

It took about 3 months for me to get my daughters. I am not sure how you can check. Maybe call or go to your local social security office if you have one.
