I have a freshwater aquarium, and while I love my little fishies, I often find myself drooling over my dad's saltwater specimens. Anyone know of unique creatures for a freshwater aquarium?
(And I don't mean just fish.)

For reference, I currently have:
-2 guppies
-3 Neon Tetras
-2 Danios
-1 snail (I have forgotten the full name, but it's something to do with golden)

I have a clown, one firefish, one long nose hawkfish, a green mandarin, and a bicolor goby. all of them love to eat frozen mysid and brine shrimp and not much else. Of course the mandarin goes for the pods. But I am planing on being away for possibly up to two weeks. I don't really have any options other than to get an automatic feeder for these guys, b/c I am new to the area and I don't have anyone who could check up on them and feed them for me. Are there any options out there to have an automatic feeder to feed frozen foods? I would give them live food, but I have a 37 gal. eclipse and I am not sure how I could hook up something to that to give them a continuous supply of live food. The tank is completely covered with a hood. Could I just dump a bunch of pod and brine cysts in there to hatch while I am gone? That would ruin the water quality. Does anyone know of how I could pull a two-week vacation and still have live fish when I get back w/o having to give them unwantedfood

My betta goes to the top of my aquarium to breath and my aunt told me that they go to the top of the tank to breath. Are they fish or are they mamals?

Every year I buy about 6 fish, how come like after 5-7 days 2 or 3 of them die easily. We keep them at room temprature, change their water everyday, and feed them every morning but they die really really fast!!! Every year I have only 2-4 fish left so before those 2-4 fish die I have to throw them in a river, lake, or water fountain (not where you drink from). Any help is good

i got a betta about a week ago for a 2.5 gallon tank (planted with a heater and a filter good for 10 gallons) and he's doing great, escept he's turned out to be a picky eater. by that i mean that anything thats not a (previously frozen) bloodworm is not worth opening his mouth for.

other foods i've tried:
betta "bites" (little pellets bigger than guppy pellets) both dry and pre-soaked
flake food
dried blood worms

i also throw a small bit of an algae wafer in there every other day for the 2 wee snails in there, and i've noticed the betta pecking at that, but he could just be poking it, not eating it.

anyway, i'm worried about a diet of bloodworms alone. is it healthy? is it nutritionally balanced enough? and does anyone else have suggestions for foods for picky bettas?

thanks in advance!

I want to get a beta or goldfish for my desk at work. Since I don't work weekends should I worry about the fish dying or something since it won't get fed on the weekends?

Lately my O's been attacking his reflection, I'm worried that he's going to get too stressed out and make himself sick. Is there something I can do to stop him from frizzing out so much?

Also, we bought frozen brine shrimp and he ate that fine, but we bought frozen bloodworms and he won't eat them, he's even stopped eating the pellets that he was eating before....is he just being picky?

i am thinking about starting a 29 gallon goldfish tank. i want either 3 fancys, or two comets out of my pond. we have taken goldfish from our pond and put them in tanks and they lived fine before. my pond is huge. i mean like 1/4 acre, 6 ft deep in some areas. some koi and other goldfish are about 5-7 lbs, but all of the comets we put in almost 10 years ago are only around 6 inches.so i was thinking maybe two of my pond coments or 3 fancies. my room that my tank is in stays cold in the winter like 55-60 but i know the comets from my pond will live fine in this temp will the fancies?

thanks
