I know Rams are Cichlids which can be sort of aggressive. But I thought Round Bodied Rams were more mellow. The Alpha Ram keeps attacking my other Ram. It is so bad the passive Ram has finlock. I had to separate him. How do I get him to stop?

On the internet i've heard a lot about protein skimmers, but not a lot about exactley what they do or how they work. I've read of people who make their own, and i've seen their plans but i can't figure it out. What importance are they to the aquarium?

I have a ten gallon tank with two ballon belly mollies in it(I am aware that they are going to be too big for the tank). i got the tank about a week and a half ago set it up the day i got it and let it cycle for about 7 days. I just got the about fish 3 days ago fish and it seems as if they arent getting enough air because they are gulping at the top of the tank. I've heard that it may be my water and i havent tested it or put anything special in it. so what are some things i could do to get them acting healthy again such as things i should put in the water or possibly something that will cycle in more air?

I recently(within the last 2 weeks) aquired several livebearers. (Mollies, Swordtails, & Guppies) As many as 12 of the females appeared pregnant already. Now a few of them look ready to explode. I'm trying to figure out how long I have to get them separated. My tank is 55 gallons with plenty of plants and hidey holes

I just purchased a algea eater and put him in my betta tank, the tank is about 8 inches by 10 inches and 16 inches high,I have a grown male betta in it also and was wondering if it is normal for the algea eater to be chasinghim around and nipping or sucking on his tail, the algea eater seems to be damaging his tail, should I take my betta out of the tank and put him into another tank or will he be okay in the tank that he is in now,my male betta seems to hide from him everytime he goes after him.

I have a few questions regarding making DIY aquarium decorations. Since you can use non-glazed clay flower pots safely, can you use other fired ceramic objects? If so, can they be painted and coated in something that is aquarium safe? Or must they be glazed before being fired? I don't want to spend $60 for marine epoxy for one or two ornaments but have some ideas for my cichlid tank that I just can't find at the local LFS or even ebay! Any help is appreciated :)

My 7 in male dovii has killed every tankmate i have put in his 55 gal tank..so i accept the fact that he must be kept alone..however now he is attacking everything that hangs in the tank..(heater,filter tube, the top of the hood, bubble blower).i also noticed he is tearing the leaves off my fake plants. I change up the caves and the scenery about once a month to keep him challenged but he is getting out of hand..i cant get a bigger tank for another couple months due to finances..any suggestions ?

I kept Koi fish and would maybe do that again, but I was wondering what other types I could put outside. Are there types of fish that would get along with another type?

I have searched and searched online, and found some very intersting ideas on how to make them, and found some small rocks, but I am having trouble putting it all together. There isn't really any stores around so I can place the rocks together before buy them. I don't want anything too heavy, so I am kind of ruling out real stone. I need more hiding places for my fish!!! I am hoping someone knows of a website that I haven't come across.

Why are sharks, dolphins, and whales have their own names? Are they considered different from fish or are they a type of fish? If they're different, what's unique about sharks, dolphins, and whales?

Things went very poorly the first try. I killed all my goldfish in about two weeks time, I have a 12 gallon aquarium http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=3865&N=2004+113138
and I just bought the 50 watt Visi-Therm heater and a new filter pad.
The place I went to had a ton of bettas. The workers were all Asian. They told me one betta was a good start. They told me their bettas were better, because they keep them in larger 16 oz containers, rather than other stores keep them in 8 oz containers or smaller. We'll see.
I know I want more than one betta in my tank, but they told me to wait a while. English isn't their native language, but they seem to know something. What do you think?

I bought a red seastar 2 days ago. Last night I had a big crisis where I forgot to plug my powerhead back in. The fish have recovered and the star is still alive, but he looks like hes melted into the rocks! He was moving around the glass yesterday, and not hes just melted on onto the liverock.

Is this normal behaviour? Is he still recovering from the shock of the temporary low levels of oxagen?

Please only answer if you are expereinced with keeping starfish.
