I bought a red seastar 2 days ago. Last night I had a big crisis where I forgot to plug my powerhead back in. The fish have recovered and the star is still alive, but he looks like hes melted into the rocks! He was moving around the glass yesterday, and not hes just melted on onto the liverock.

Is this normal behaviour? Is he still recovering from the shock of the temporary low levels of oxagen?

Please only answer if you are expereinced with keeping starfish.

I work at a museum that has tons of seastars on display in various aquariums. It sounds like he's fine. Was he in shock? Possibly. Still in shock? Maybe. But, if you have other fish in the tank and they're fine, he may be fine too, especially since you said he was moving around yesterday.

Seastar's happen to be happy just sticking themselves in one spot. If you're really worried, pick him up and see how he reaacts. But I wouldn't worry too much about him just yet. He's also probably still adjusting to his new environment and may have found his new favorite spot too.

well, starfish has millions of tentacals to attach them selves. how ever, no worries, starfish look like they melted in the rocks when they stick them selves down, like at the ocean so they dont get washed away. it'll de-tach it self soon, no worries!~
