um.. my last question with the fish better than dogs, What's the point of getting fish?

I can't say that fish are better than dogs, but fish( some exotic types) can be interesting. Some of the benefits of a fish can be:

~don't go potty on the carpet
~don't give it walks
~it doesn't whine in the middle of night when there's thunder
~you don't get rats and mice trying to get into dog food bags
~doesn't bark

If you're looking for protection....then don't look for a fish. The problems with a fish is that you have to keep the water in a certain range of temperature, need to clean the bowl about once a week or so so algae doesn't grow, not very entertaining. The fish isn't as high maintance as a dog, but dogs certainly can spice up your life and make you laugh. There's not much fun in watching a fish swim, but they can brighten up a room with color and they can set a very relaxing and lay back environment, they're are ups and down to both of the species.

fish theroeticaly require less maintance than dogs, however they do require a lot of patience and time at the beginning of setting up your tank.

dogs require space, time love, attention, vet bills, grooming costs, however they are also a joy to be around. i have had dogs all my life and there is nothing better then coming home and having you dog just light up and is so insainly happy to see you. you dont quite get that reaction from fish.

fish can be cheaper, depending on how big you tank is, whether it is freshwater or saltwater, but like all living creatures, they need your attention and there is a learning process on how to care for the fish. just like with a dog, you need to do your research to determine the types of fish or dog you can get.

fish can be a great hobby, and a great way for kids to start with a pet, as they are cheap and normaly dont live an insanly long time. a lot of apartments do not allow dogs or cats, so people who like pets may choose to get a fish tank, so they still have something other than people to take care of.

fish are also very pretty to look at, and can be soothing.

Also, if you travel a lot, you can leave your fish for longer periods of time withou kennel costs, having to have people come in every day to feed your dog, etc.

I have fish , cats and dogs, and i love them all for very different reasons. I always thought fish were kind of stupid or silly to purchase, however i have found it to be an interesting challenge and a very great learning experience.

Fish are a fun pet to have! They are colorful and nice to look at, and they can to some very funny things.

And to the person who said fish are easier to take care of than dogs, I disagree. I spend maybe 15 minutes a week cleaning up after my dog, but it takes more than 30 minutes to clean 1 aquarium. Its well worth it though.

Fish are more of a hobby than a pet. You can design your tank and get different kinds of fish, it can be relaxing to look at and in a salt water tank there are some different kinds life forms like snails, and anenome's. You can have a dog and a fish you know.

An aquarium is very aesthetically pleasing, not to mention calming. The fish are just part of that, but they really aren't "pets" per se.
