i got a betta about a week ago for a 2.5 gallon tank (planted with a heater and a filter good for 10 gallons) and he's doing great, escept he's turned out to be a picky eater. by that i mean that anything thats not a (previously frozen) bloodworm is not worth opening his mouth for.

other foods i've tried:
betta "bites" (little pellets bigger than guppy pellets) both dry and pre-soaked
flake food
dried blood worms

i also throw a small bit of an algae wafer in there every other day for the 2 wee snails in there, and i've noticed the betta pecking at that, but he could just be poking it, not eating it.

anyway, i'm worried about a diet of bloodworms alone. is it healthy? is it nutritionally balanced enough? and does anyone else have suggestions for foods for picky bettas?

thanks in advance!

Try Brine Shrimp in various form, also see if he will eat Hikari Pellets. Then you can try blackworms live or frozen. Bettas are so picky so you will need to find foods that he will eat, I try to feed mine at least 3 different things.

I have Hikari Pellets, freeze dried blood worms and frozen brine shrimp.

stay nutrition makes the two certainly one of my bettas choosy as nicely as my dwarf puffers ... i purchase some stay black worms each and each month for a cope with and the day after the stay worms are performed and that i'm putting in the frozen thawed bloodworms, all fish look for the stay and forget approximately with reference to the bloodworms ... however the 2nd day they consume ... I even have one betta who i fed stay for the 1st week i've got been given him (mistake) and had to starve him to get him to consume bloodworms ... he won't consume pellets ... the different betta will consume pellets nonetheless ... I even have by no skill had any fish consume something freeze-dried ...

Try going to the petstore or place where you bought the betta fish, and asking them what they fed the fish. I hope this helps.
