First thing, take your fish to the grocery store and have it weighed on a certified scale. (the deli will do it for you) and have them give you a sticker with the clerks name and weight of the fish.

Secondly, either keep it on ice or in the frig. Fish loose weight as they are out of the water and die. (If you are keeping it alive Great!)

You will have to call the Fish commissioner's office in your area. Any office will do. Sometimes Sporting good shops have applications for record fish.

You can also go on the internet under your state then fish and wildlife conservation / fish / state and federal records.

It will take you step by step on how to proceed. Chances are at this point you will have to take your fish, with the official weight sticker to their office for measuring, scale removal (they take a few scales from your fish for aging and record reasons) you will have to fill out paperwork as to where you caught it, what you caught it on etc.

they will photograph your fish. You will get a certificate in the mail for either a citation fish or a state / federal / world record.

Great and congrads!

You could contact a sporting goods shop like Bass Pro Shop. They'd be able to tell you how to get your fish officially recognized if it is a record. What kind of fish and how big was it?

Definitely the DFG. Make sure that U take pictures and make sure that there are no alterations to the fish. They will check it out after weighing it and then they will check their records if it qualifies.

Best of luck. !
