i don't want any schooling fish (i am getting a seperate tank for some neon tetras). I was some really pretty fish.

my fiance wants sharks and catfish and "manly" fish, but he doesn't like the really small ones, and the tank isn't big enough for larger ones. Any help on ideas of pretty fish i would like, but that are big enough or "manly" enough for him to like.

p.s. no worries, i am taking care of the fish, not him. He jsut agreed to buy me a new tank if i let him help decide on the fish for his... lol

Hi I just purchased 2 bettas last week. One is perfectly fine but I noticed verticle slits appearing in the other one's belly fin and I just saw that he has a large knotch taken out of his tail, he's a rounded tail betta so it's pretty noticable. I'm not sure if it's 1. him just being stressed with the move or 2. possible fin rot. I've never owned any fish before so I really have no idea. From what I can see it doesn't have any strange discoloration but he's a black betta. I just moved him to another temprorary tank and am not sure if I should just move the other fish back to the old tank to reduce his stress. I really don't want it to be fin rot because i think that he's very pretty. He's black but has a blue sheen and a few red spots. Can any one with more experience help me out?

Is there a trick of the light to make them look more golden, or are they fed on something that gives them a brighter glow (like flamingoes would be white if they didn't eat pink prawns)?

I check the level at least once a week, and it is usually 7.0. I checked it last night after losing 5 fish, it was 6.6. The amonia level was very low (less than .25). The only 2 things I have done in the last week, was added live plants and a few new fish. There were and still are no signs of sickness or disease.Thanks.

Hello. I was wondering if anybody had any experience in breeding glowlight danios. I've read that they're harder to breed than other danio species. What are the specific conditions needed to breed? Any help would be much appreciated.

ok just need ideas on getting rid of diatom brown algae. I have a 125 saltwater tank 40 ga fuge. levels are good nitrates are mildly detectable inbetween 0 and 5.0 ppm. I use RO/distilled water, carribean live sand, 136lbs. of live rock, 55 gal. canister filter, 40gal. hang on the back filter, live plants and protein skimmer. I also have been useing phosphate sponge in my canister filter and the diatom growth has improved but not completely gone. Its a relativly new setup only a few months old and i moved over a 55 gal. well established tank. I want to have perfect water quality so all my marine life will thrive in. All fish are healthy and happy some corals are kept and are doing great but the diatom drives me nuts any ideas?

My Red Tail Dalmation Platy had babies about a month and 1 week ago, their getting pretty big, do you think their big enough to put in with the rest of the fish? We plan on putting them in their own 10 gallon tank, but we think that the mother to them may be pregnant again, would it be safe to put her in with the baby fish?

Hi everybody, i posted another question like this an hour ago and i wasn't specific enough so here it is. I own currently 2 Redcap Orandas and i have a 10 gallon tank with one filter and also this little tea bag thing at the bottom to help the tank stay clean. When i added this tea bag thing, the tank was clear for about 2 days or so then it began to get cloudier and cloudier. Not its cloudy AND green. I can't even see through it! One of my redcaps died yesterday and i only have one left. May someone please help me on the steps to keep a fish tank clean? That would help me so much. Thanks a lot guys!

Hello. I have a 2.5 gallon planted aquarium holding a male betta. Would it be possible or even a good idea to make a CO2 injection system for it? I was going to use a liter bottle, and a glass diffusor among other things. Any input would be much appreciated. Oh by the way the plants include dwarf sagittaria, a few crypts and a java fern. The lighting is approximately 3 watts/gallon. Thanks.
