He will be fine in a bowl for a night. If it's a small bowl cover the top with something like a towel so he can get air but not jump out.

You don;t have to have a large tank for a betta, something like a 2 gallon would be great, but a heater and filter for it are almosts musts! He won't do well without them.

Try not to move him or his tank too much. If you are taking turns with him, do it every other week or so. The more you move him the more likely he will get sick or hurt. It's also bad for a tank to take all the water out once it's been set up.

Last thing, be careful not to over feed him. Just what he can eat in 2-3 minutes twice a day.

Hope that helps!

haha, first of all stop freaking out because bettas are really easy to take care of...

1. It will be perfectly happy in a bowl... I would say find one that is atleast as big as 1\3 gallon, this will give it plenty of room to swim. If you are planing on a bigger tank for it: They do not need a filter, though one may make them more comfortable. They also do not need a heater as long as their water is kept somewhere around 70F give or take about 5 degrees. (p.s. if your beta is a girl and you have a larger tank, you may be able to keep more than one female together as long as they are reletively the same size! ...you can tell if it is a girl by the size of the fish, if it is reletively small and has small fins (rather than very long colorful ones), it is a girl -males will fight to the death and should not be put together)
2. put some rocks or glass stones on the bottom and a plant if you would like, this such is mostly for show but it may add comfort to your fish's home. Do not add too much clutter though as fish do like to swim and need room to do so!
3. Change about 50% of the water a week if possible (every other week would do just fine). You should completely rinse and wipe out the bowl though each time... NO SOAP! also, make sure there is no chlorine in the water because this may kill it. (You can buy chemicals that will take care of the chlorine if you are using tap water)
4. You may want to buy some stress reliving chemicals to add when you change the water... there are different types you can use but I personally use one called "Stress Coat" which both heals and protects aswell as helping reduce stress. This is completely optional though, as I have known a few good betas to be perfectly fine without this.
5. Regular beta food is also just fine, if you would like to pamper it a bit they often enjoy dried blood worms as a treat!

Remember also to have fun, enjoy your new pet! I'm sure you will do just fine taking care of it!

no more than one per tank...they will try to kill eachother.. wash the water every few weeks(depending on how big the tank is) feed once a day (3-4 things) maybe more maybe less, the fish knows how much usually and at first might not eat as much. Also, you can get this conditioner stuff that comes in little droppers which you put in to keep the water "fresh" The tank size doesnt "really" matter but i guess the bigger the better. Ours was a medium sized jar.

P.S when your washing the tank, make sure you get all the soap off, be extra carefull. We had a betta but it died because some soap was left in.

Hope this helps..

Betta's are fairly easy to care for. Just be sure the water you use does not have any chlorine in it- it will kill him. A regular size fish bowl is fine, just be sure to clean it 2-3 times a month. You can also buy these cool tablets at the pet store to put in their tanks to feed them if you go on a trip. The most important thing about Betta's are to keep only one fish to a tank. They will kill the other fish. Good luck!

Not really anything else you need. They're fighting fish, and will fight with their reflection if you put a little mirror by their tank. Do it about once or twice a day to exercise your fish. They have this little ruff that comes out from near their gills when they do this, it's a display of aggression and perfectly normal for a Siamese Fighting Fish.
They also make a nice item called Stress Coat that's good for each time you change the water in the tank. It keeps the fish's scales all nice and supple, and protects them from damage. They're very great pets, and easy to take care of. They like things they can hide in, like aquarium decor and plants, etc.

Sure, a bowl is all they need for a home...but you want to at least have a floating plant at the top. Not only are bettas fighting fish, they're also puddle jumpers. In the wild, they jump from puddle to puddle in search of mates. This instinct will eventually kick in when kept in captivity and you may wake up one moring to find that your fish has "commited suicide" by jumping out of his bowl. Keeping a plant in the bowl will prevent this from happening and will also oxygenate the water and help keep the proper pH balance.
Good luck and enjoy!

You need a fish tank of at least 5 gallons, a filter, and a heater. A bowl is not appropriate...but if you are only keeping him in there for one night...yes, he will probably be ok.

you don't need much for a beat, they can live in a small bowl for their entire life and be ok with that. you just need to make sure to get them a food that will float for a little while, they don't like to bottom feed.
