My Red Tail Dalmation Platy had babies about a month and 1 week ago, their getting pretty big, do you think their big enough to put in with the rest of the fish? We plan on putting them in their own 10 gallon tank, but we think that the mother to them may be pregnant again, would it be safe to put her in with the baby fish?

Always remember that big fish eat little fish. That is the law of nature not mine. If you have the right environment for the babies then there shouldn't be a problem. I had sail fin Mollies and they had a bunch of babies. With the Mollies I used a lot of floating grass for them to hide in. I put it at the top of the tank for the fry and they all grow up nicely. If you think the mother is pregnant again you might want to put her in the ten gallon tank and then remove her after she has the babies. I'm assuming that she is a live barer and she doesn't lay eggs. If that is the case then once she has the babies remove her. If you don't want anymore babies then keep her away from males you can make a divider or get something at the pet shop. Or you can put her in a tank with other type's of fish so there isn't a partner for her to bread with. You can also check with your local pet shop for information on this subject. Your local library is very helpful too. There are a lot of books on fish and fish breading. Best of luck, I hope this answers your question...

It would probably be safe. What you are looking for is will the babies fit in the adults mouth? if not then they are safe.

Odds are very good the female is well along in another pregnancy. Platys , like many other livebearers do that.
