Hi - I have two green spot puffers in a 20 gallon tank for the last week now and have a question about getting bitten. I read that puffers have some kind of poison (tetratoxin?) but most of what I read deals with eating them. I was wondering - 1) how safe is it to put my hand in the tank (for cleaning and stuff) and 2) is their bite poisonous? Oh - and 3) when should I start feeding them snails? (I mean at what length - they're an inch right now). thanks a lot.

It is an Asian sole or freshwater sole i have got. I have read things on the web saying that as they get older they are best kept in a tank with some salt in it. Does anyone know if they are ok in fresh water?

I have a 29 gallon tank with one Gold Male Gourami. He had terrorized and killed gourami's twice his size male and female, and even killed two small cory's that lived at the bottom of the tank. I have tested the tank for nitrates and ammonia. Nitrates are zero, and the ammonia is almost non-existent. I'm running two filters, over the back, and undergravel.

I tried changing the tank around so he would not be so territorial, and I even tried getting more females to male. Still he kills anything I put in the tank with him.

What sort of fish can I get that he will be unable to torture? Or should I see about giving him away?

Not that it matters but I've had him for two years, and the tank is well established and has been in operation for 5 years.

My boyfriend and i have a freshwater/tropical fish tank. We recently purchased a freshwater place. (or it's called an Asian place) It's a baby and just over an inch long. It is dark brown with small black line on it. The fish shop owner said to feed it on blood worm. We have looked for info about these fish on the net but can't find anything on them. We want to know if there is anyone out there who can give us any information of any kind on them please? Thankyou :)

My tank has been having several problems. My Jack dympsey[sp] has been running it. Killing other south americans his size, hes just out of control. I dont know how to fix it, I've redone the territory several times.

My black convicts die right when I bring them home

And now one of my chichlids entire stomach is white. And when its done swimming. It sinks to the bottom and lands on its side. It looks in pain, I dont know what to do. I classified it as bloat and bought an all purpose fish pill that disolved, knowing it takes about 48 hours for the pill to actually take effect, I was still wondering if it even was bloat. A kidney disease maybe? I just do not know.

i have a 30 gl cube tk with two shubkin goldfish one is 2.5 inch long and the other is 5inches long. it is a well established tank (2 years) and every thing was great untill recently. i am now haveing problems keeping the tank clear. 2 months ago i added an additional filter and per advise started doing 10 percent water changes every other day this was to go on till the tank cleared. after a month of this i got frustrated and did a 50 % change and completely sterlized the older filter. for a month the tank stayed clear. its NOW back to being Cloudy agian. i have two filters on the tank. one a Whisper with Bio sponge rated for a 30-60 gallon tank and the other is an Enhim (?) rated for a 50 gallon tank with 2 bio sponges and other media. i have done a 20 percent water change, changed the filter media in the whisper filter and carbon in both and no change its still cloudy, the water test with no ammonia,or nitrites. are my fish to big for that tank? what can i do to keep the water clear

I was given a 46 gallon bowfront gallon mid Febuary 2007. I have 5 neon tetras, 5 black skirt tetras, 1 platy, 3 mollies and one baby algae eater. The tank is well planted with lots of hiding places and rocks. I have a nice filter and heater, none of my fish have died and seem to be thriving. Just around this week, my tank has become blotchy with algae. It is not crystal clear anymore and Im not over feeding, any ideas on how to get it clean? Some shrimp? Crabs? Snails? More algae eaters? Help :D

I have two males...in seperate bowls
One a "regular" betta - he gets all aggitated and huffy
The halfmoon tail doesnt.

I know it isn't because of age (they are both about a year)
has anyone else heard that halfmoons are less aggressive?
Not that I care - I wouldnt let them fight anyhow ;)
I just happened to notice and was curious.

Every time I give him a blood worm, usually his stomach puffs up to a dangerous size the next time I check on him, usually about 10-16 hours later at most. It looks like he's constipated, but that usually lasts more than a couple of days, plus I can tell he's still "going." He doesn't look like he's sick, and I just don't feed him for that day and his stomach is considerably smaller the next day. For now, I guess I don't feed him any more blood worms. I'm pretty sure that I'm not overfeeding, my sister has a betta that I feed the same way as mine, and his stomach is fine.
Pretty much all I want to know is why is that happening and is it possible for fish to have allergies?

a few weeks ago i got 2 medaka fish (gold ones but i dont think thats relevant) and within the first few days one of them died. we think it was caused by the fact that we didnt rinse the filter cartride properly, because the water went cloudey for about 4 days. however the other one survived, and last week i noticed it was getting fat, but just thought it was caused by me over feeding it. then a couple of days after that it layed eggs, and now they are on the bottom of the tank. and now also, the fishs tail is bent. so my questions are:

1. will the eggs hatch?

2. did the (what we think was a male) fish die bcoz after they mate the male dies (probably a stupid question)

3.why is the (still alive) fishs tail bent?

4.how long in their life span generaly?

thanks.

3 Black Skirt Tetra {Black Widow} - (0.8inch / 2cm)
4 Harlequin {Rasbora Espei} - (0.8inch / 2cm)
1 Amano shrimp (Algae eater)

Tank size - 15 gallon
24in X 12in X 15in (60cm X 30cm X 40cm)
Planted tank. Subtract - sand and pebbles and a bogwood.

Water change 30% - 40% weekly

Diet - Flakes & Micro pellets.

1) Would these fishes thrive in my tank?
2) Are these fishes compatible?
3) Is the tank overstocked?

Thank you for answers.

I have a 20 gallon tank, and i'm decided what fish i want to get once it's finished cycling. Here's my ideas...

I want atleast one little catfish. i love them.
I want a pretty type of little fish that likes to be in schools.
And I would like to have maybe a bigger fish that would draw people's attention to it (like something really pretty)

and i would love to have as many fish as i can... without them having any harm...
