I am just starting out with a silver arowana and it is i would say about 2 or 3 inches long maybe? I have a 75 gallon fish tank. I know these things can get to be about 3 or 4 feet long but how long will that take and can i keep it in my tank?

It will take a year to 18 months to outgrow your tank, depending on numerous factors. Before it becomes full grown it will need a 150-200 gallon tank to call it's own. the long low styles of tanks in that size would be best to give it swimming room. Don't forget these guys are real jumpers. I saw one about a foot to 15" long or so break a 1/4" thick glass top that had bricks on it to hold it down.

Fish will only grow to the size of the tank they are housed in. The same goes for arowana. In a 75 gallon fish tank, your arowana will go very quickly if you feed it foods that are high in protein. Gilligan, my arowana is about 7-8 inches long in a 55 gallon tank. I've had him for about two years. He eats goldfish, the occassional moth and even flakes. They are a fish from the amazon so make sure your water is soft, your pH is in the 6.4-6.6 range, and the temperature is in the low 80's.

Well, i had personal experiences with silver arowanas. I bought my first silver at 6-7" and had it for about a year in my 55 gallon tank till it showed signs of outgrowing the tank (gills curl). It stayed at 15" in my 55 for awhile. When i moved it into my uncles 125g, it grew to 18" in about a month.

For your situation, you will have at least 1 1/2 years depending on factors (temp, food frequency, etc.). The fish might not even outgrow the tank if your lucky.

Arowanas can grow 2 -3" in a month easily if fed well. I'd contact your local specialty fish store now about special ordering a large (200+ gallons) plexiglass tank.

not shure how long it takes for growth , but I do know that fish wont out grow their envirorment,& as soon as you put them in a bigger tank they'll start growing again if tank is big enoph till max. size is reached. -Tim
