To me they seem to be looking for food, do they always come up to the top like that? are they really hungry, maybe i'm not feeding them enough? They usually do it when I'm looking at them. My water ph is fine and the ammonia is a little high but i'm guessing its because its a new tank. So what could it be?
also any suggestions on how to lower the ammonia (tank is pretty clean and I do weekly 20% water change with a vacuum)

I have found a tank that holds 2 Beta fish. It has a plastic divider down the middle to separate the two fish. It also has a solid blue screen that goes down the middle. It keeps the fish from seeing each other but you can remove it. This is apparently so the fish will see each other and puff up but can't hurt each other. I would like to get one of these tanks and 2 fish. I was wondering though its kind of like teasing the fish. Is this type of tank cruel to the Beta fish?

The reason I ask, is that this fish has dissapeared. I bought 2 blennies at the same time in hopes of reducing algae. My algae/sailfin blenny is awesome and eats like a shark. But after 2 days of hopping along the bottom, the other one is gone. Could he have buried himself out of sight? Jumped out of the tank? Been attacked by other peaceful tankmate? (I have 3 tomato clowns, one blue tang, and one valentini puffer.) I have not found him outside the tank, but I'm sure the cats would take care of him rather quickly. Please help! I'd hate to give away a $25 fish so easily.

There are no color changes. He just seems to not have an appetite and just lets himself settle on the bottom of the tank.
I've been observant the past 3 days and i tried feeding him peas to no avail. I don't wann lose him. Shoud i just observe him and try to feed him more peas?

I have some betta fries that seem to like sitting on the bottom of the tank they seem to have a problem swimming to the top of the tank for air, my tank has only 5 inches of water in it, my fries are about two months old and some of them are still really small, the fries that are sitting on the bottom of the tank could they have a swimbladder disease or is there something else wrong with them. The PH and Ammonia levels are alright, so what could be the problem.

I've had my black molly for about two months now and up until a few days ago, he ( she?) had a huge appetite and was very active in the tank. Now, he swims around listlessly, if at all, and does not eat. He hovers in one spot a lot (like the glass cats) and does not seem to recognize food like he used to. He'll swim at the top when it's feeding time, but won't eat anything. He used to be a real go-getter about food, but now it looks like he's at the top of the water when there's food only by chance. Also, his fins don't look as well-formed as they used to. What's wrong with him? Thanks!

Tankmates, in a 10-gallon tank:
- male betta (not aggressive at all, has never attacked the molly)
- long-finned danio (he and the molly used to chase each other around until the molly became despondent)
- african dwarf frog
- glass catfish (2)
- Chinese algae eater

i started an aquarium in october 2006 with 8 goldfish in a 55gallon tank. One of the fish had ick and infested the entire tank before dying. i treated with ick med. from the pet store and fish were recovered but several died in the process. then i bought another 5 healthy fish and they were all fine until the next outbreak which was about 1 mo. later.this time was alot worse, the 8 fish i had only 2 survived after the med. treatment. so now it's been almost 2 mo. since the last outbreak and i want to add more fish. i don't know if it's safe to do it? i dont want to kill another bunch with this ick. how do i make sure ick dont come back? i read somewhere treating them with salt is less stressful which i'll def. try if it does happen again. but i dont want to see them suffer. the surviving 2 already went thru 2 ick outbreaks! i want to be absolutely sure before i introduce more fish into the tank. please help!

I have a Fish tank that HAD clear silicone sealent on its seems. It recently removed the incondecent light bulb and replaced it with a compact florecent bulb thet emits a soft blue light. (dollar store special $3.48?) Now the silicone has taken on a...milky white colouration. Is this a sighn of UV? light that is "eating" the silicone or is it just a cosmetic thing that is not to be worried about?

My betta fish has recently been "jumping" out of his tank. He does fall back into the water, but I am concered he might fall out of his tank.

I have not owned a betta fish before, is this normal?

I went to this website before where I put in the dimensions of my tank and I would stock it like how I wanted it and they would tell me if I was over stocked or if the fish didn't get along. I thought I had added it to my favorites but I can't find it, does anyone have the link?

I'm using a "hang-on" waterfall style filter from my old #10 ten tank, but my water stays cloudy and it seems to clog up the filter insert really fast.

There are goldfish and guppies, of course, but it would be nice to have something a little more exotic. Any suggestions?

I've had my beta for over a year. About a month ago an open sore apeared over his right eye. I wasn't too worried because his behavior was the same and he was eating just fine. I tried treating him w/ "BettaFix" but it didn't work. Then I tried Mardel's Maracyn-Two with no luck.
A friend took care of him last week when I had to leave town. When I got back he told me that Auguste (the fish) would not eat and I noticed that the sore on his face has grown. I started treating him with "Melafix" 2 days ago.
What should I do about his appitite? Should I force feed him (i don't even know how)?

(He lives in a 5L bowl and has a water change every week.)

I have a 2 1/2 gallon tank on my desk at work - 2 tequila sunrise guppies and 2 cherry barbs (and an otto). Well, it seems like my 2 guppies have really started digging on each other, but I'm not sure. I don't even know if I have a boy and a girl, although one is bigger than the other one. But the big one keeps snuffling around the smaller one, not in a threatening way, or sometimes they'll turn nose to nose and just stare at each other for a couple of seconds.

Could this be guppy love? Am I going to be overrun with little baby fish? Will the other fish in the tank eat the baby fish? Do I need a bigger tank? ... ... Anyone want some baby guppies if they do hit it off?

I have a baby fantail. He's about 1 1/2 inches long. I have him, alone, in a 16 gallon filtered tank with lots of live plants. Have been feeding him from a small sample of Hikari baby goldfish pellets for two days now. Read from other sources that I should soak the food first then feed but on the first day he wouldn't eat them so today I fed him those directly. He ate them. Will he get bloated? What foods have you used and been successful with? Should I feed him more than once a day small portions? Also, how fast will he grow? I plan to leave him in this tank as long as possible. Also, will he get lonely being alone in this tank? If so, what other fish should I add and how many? --a lot of questions---Thank you for any answers you may have.
