if your breeding guppyies and you only have guppies do not use a breading trap this will only stress out the other fish and they will attack the female when she returns back into the group as long as you have plenty of plant coveridge for the fry to hide (small temples are good) then the bigger fish will not eat them, your water has to be warmer than normall if breading aroun 29oc, guppies and mollys are really east to bread there like rabits , before you know it you'll need a bigger tank , the adult guppies love lettice and cucumber it gives them a good growth boost, frozen blood warm and shrimp they love it and full of protien

This is where the "do nothing" option comes into play. Guppies breed like rabbits so just leave them to it. If there are other fish in the tank who are likely to eat the fry, then net the fry into a breeder tank. Don't bother with special feed.

i think Jellicoe has given the best advice here to be honest.
more so as your tank is small.
guppies breed, that is all they do, one mating can give the female around 6 pregnancies......so, if you have a few rocks and plants, let nature take its course.
by instinct the young head straight for a hiding place and can feed on, basically the left overs from other fish so specialist feeding is not something to worry about.
on the othe rhand, if you are intending to breed them to sell on to pet shops.....then you really need to choose your fish very carefully, for a start, males and females need seperating very early otherwise the first breeding might have already taken place.
colour selection is really important and you need to develop a strain that others will want....not that easy as there will be many 'throw backs', also, the price you will be offered will be nowhere near what the shops charge, shops buy fish in for very little but have massive overheads with lighting, heating, filtration etc....a fish you may pay £1.00 for would maybe cost the shop 20p

Babies are born every 28 days or so. You're new female will already be carrying babies when you get her so it will be less than that before you have babies. Watch for her to get really fat and have a dark spot at the end of her belly. When she starts to look that way and starts to hang around in plants or at the bottom of the tank it's time to get her in a net. Take her out right after the babies are born or she will eat them.
The best things to feed baby guppies is crushed flake food and frozen foods like brine shrimp or daphnia. Feed them twice a day, once with flake and once with something else. Be sure not to allow uneaten food to stay in the tank or it will foul the eater and kill the fish.

Now, were you wanting to breed them, or are you just thinking you might wind up like I think I'm getting ready to - with some unexpected guppy love? If you're wanting to breed them, I would think you should ask the folks wherever you're getting the adults from. This should have been thought out a little better if you're only a couple of days away from getting them.

Google then choose what you want from there. It will be hard to pinpoint the exact time of the drop. Mine has happened during the night. I read that it's the hours before dawn? Just have some where for the fry to hide and stay off the menu. I feed mine live brine shrimp, but that's time consuming hatching them every day. They have fry food in the pet store. Good Luck..><>:)

you have to keep your guppy calm wait as long as you can before you put it in the breeding trap(about a week before its due)and it wont get stressed out.when it has its fry remove the mother and keep the fry in there untill they are big enough to not get eaten.hope i helped

Magicman perfect answer .but make sure you have a nursery tank they are inexpensive and hang in main tank. You will have
too many guppies after a while so try to sell them to local pet shop or give to friends.

i have found that the dark sport gets lighter when she is nearing having the fish. her bum will go pointy when she is having them and she will be like a box shape from the front. i think its better to leave the mother out of the breeder box and just catch the babies when shes had them, mine just jumped out the box over night.you have to look really care fully for them as they are less than 1cm when they are born.feel free to email me with any more questions.
