My betta is in a 4 gallon filtered tank. Just measured his ammonia level at 1.0. The tank has just started up. I used stress coat and stress zyme 5 days ago and ammo lock just now to stop the ammonia. There are a few live plants in with him. His regular water change isn't due for two days....PLEASE HELP

OK ammo lock does nothing except turn the ammonia to a non toxic state temporally. the only way to truly remove ammonia is physically. so you don't jeopardize your notification cycle do a small water change siphon water from the bottom no more than half about a third of the tank monitor and do it again and some more stress zyme when you do this remember to de chlorinate

you can water change in an emergency even if it isn't due if the store sas no they just want havoc to happen so they can profit

When you start a tank, forget the regular water changes and change it as needed. I would suggest you change 50% of the water asap and about 50% every day until the ammonia reading is 0. Ammolock isn't a good idea while the tank is cycling or starting up. The bacteria need to feed off of the ammonia to cycle the tank and ammolock prevents that from happening. Just use water changes to lower the level as needed and you'll do fine. It will probably take 2-3 weeks for this cycling to complete.

Uhhh Duhh!

It's called the water change. Since you obviously just bought everything the store guy said you needed you should've bought a book the same time.

Even though the tank is new you still need to do water changes at least once a week. At least 20%, and since your ammonia is so high right now you should probably do closer to a 50% change.

There is no specific time for a water change to be "due". You do a water change every time the parameters get bad as well as on the regular basis.

Change 50% of the water asap. During cycling you need to change the water fairly often.

An ammonia level of 1 isn't going to kill your fish. Just do a water change.
