My beautiful plume tail platy has developed a weird growth on the top of her head (just one). If almost looks like a blob of whipped cream. It's kinda of stringy looking and it's white. It looks nothing like ick, it looks more like it is coming out of her head then growing on top.

I couldn't find anything that resembled it when I searched online.

She is in a 55 gallon tank with about 10 other platys, some serpae and glowlight tetras, a rainbow shark, a red spotted shrimp and two african dwarf frogs and a sailfin pleco (yes i realize the sailfin pleco will out grow this tank, and i am prepared for it)

The water seems to be fine, ph, ammonia, temp, nitrates are all normal.

Anyone have any ideas about this?

My two angels have just laid eggs on a large leaf .In the past they have laid them on the glass and the filter making it impossible to do anything . I have a 180 litre tank and also a small tank that I just use in emergencies . My tank is a community tank and in the past the eggs have just got eaten . Would I be able to just cut the leaf off and put them in the small tank and if so when is best to do this , they have just laid them a few hours ago . Also would I have to do anything special in the other tank ? They are guarding them and I am worried that I may stress them out if I move them , but they are also giving my other fish a hard time . Sorry question so long but have seen brilliant answers from you tropical experts and hope you can advise me . Thanks

I know that if you put it streight in it will release tannic acid upsetting your tanks Ph levels and makeing the water the colour of coffee or tea.I have heard of soakingit for a time...? would soaking it in salt water help....uh bleach it? or is fresh water best? How long do I soak it, a couple days, a week, a month?
My tank is a 20 gal. fresh water tank BTW and will hold Oarnge cobra guppies, a pleco, and 6-8 ghost shrimp. aswell as a bannana plant or 2,java moss and alarge java fern.

Hey everyone i'm a new owner of fish and the first two fish i got, they died in three days cuz of that white moldy stuff on their body. First question is, what is that moldy stuff?
Second question, I cleaned out the tank water halfway and put in new water but then the next day, the whole tank was green. It wasn't algae at all. The glass was clean but the water was soo cloudy and green. Can anybody tell me whats wrong? Please reply ASAP, i don't want any more fishies dying. :'(

What do you do when you have a sick fish and other fish that still seem to be healthy? Should I put it in a separate container? Leave it in the tank? Flush it? I CAN'T DO THAT IF HE'S STILL ALIVE! :( What is a way to "humanely uthanize" a guppy??
(Is it true that giving guppies peas can help to cure bloat? My guppy that I think has bloat wasn't eating the food flakes that I usually give him, but he ate the zucchini I put in there..yesterday he seemed better and was eating and swimming just fine, but today he's laying on bottom of tank. Still alive)
Okay, if you didn't understand that, here's my situation: I have one male guppy that I described above. According to "magic man" he probably has bloat or dropsy. I have one female whose whole body looks so thin (she eats just fine) Same symptoms as when male fish 1st got sick. She's pale and swimming wobbly. I have one guppy who has been pregnant for over a month and I still haven't seen any fry in tank. Have plenty plants 4 them to hide N

Two days ago, I went to a store, which shall remain names for now, and ended up purchasing a salt water Allardi Clown fish (6”) since they are rare to find . (They had two) I brought him home and decided I wanted the other one. Since I had purchased other items from the same store, I never really looked at the price and when I did, I headed back to the store and grabbed the last one they had! (which also was the reason I went for the second one. Great price!) Today I received a call from this store telling me they miss marked the fish. The fish person sold me the wrong fish (he marked them at $35 each not the price of $175 each) Not once but twice. Other than technical morals, is there a good reason I should fork over another $270 for their clerks mistake?

Our office fish, Norton, has quit eating and he lies on the bottom or on top of his plant kind of hunched over. Norton has had a very long life (we have had him for 2 years) and we take very good care of him... is he just old? anyone know how long these fish live? Is there something we can do to help him??

I know a lot about fish and I try to educate people about them in our Agriculture class but people just give me glares like I'm a know it all. My teacher used to ask me for advise on the fish tanks and I would tell her things and teach her because(I may sound mean, but its true) she's 'fish retarded' and doesn't know the first thing about caring for them. So I would help her. Now, she thinks she knows everything! The nitrite levels went up really high in all of the tanks, and I tried to explain why, but she blew me off(along with the rest of the class) and looked online to find *gasp* the same CRAP I was telling her! I tried to explain why you cant just dip a test strip in the fish water(chemicals and all) and everyone just dipped the strip right in their tank and WOW all the fish got sick and now they're dying one by one.

Why are so many people impervious to advise? Why wont they take advise from someone who has had fish tanks for the last 17yrs?

Please no smart remarks, thanks.

A few weeks ago I was in Walmart and fell in love with these little tiny blue fish that looked just like sharks. I didn't get one becuase I have, err make that "had" as of lastnight, a Betta. What with my Betta being dead I remembered those lil' sharks and wanted to research their needs and all that. I remember part of the name being "Rasbora" but I don't know the rest. Anyone familiar with what shark like tropical rasbora fish is blue? Forgive me, but the walmart pet dept isn't answering and I don't have a car to go look for the name :)
