Female bettas don't lay eggs. Once the male and female mate she drops the eggsinto the bottom of the tank and the male picks them up in his mouth and he spits them into the bubble nest (which he has already prepaired). Then the male cares for the eggs by blowing new bubbles, catching the eggs that fall, and fanning them with his fins to prevent bacterial growth. It truly is a case of "mister mom"!
