Crush them between your fingers before you feed them

The is a proper way to feed your fish.

I am fortunate in years in the pet industry to learn from numerous fish food suppliers, while hosting them during promotional demonstrations such as Tera, Wardleys, Medi-Koi. I hope this can help some of you out.

First is to take a small pinch ( about as much as your fish can eat in 2 or 3 passes)dip your fingertips in the water
(with food) and let go you don't crush the flakes it makes it harder for them (fish) to collect it all. You may do this as much as you like or until you see there belly's are full ( remember they have small belly's)

The goal is for the fish to eat the food. Not for to blow all over the tank like snow. This is where allot of poor water quality issues come from along with those little flatworms Planaria.

the tropical fish food your are feeding was formulated and designed(by scientist) To ensure easy feeding and life longevity. if a flake is to big it is so frail the excess it will break off, and what's left of that is sufficient for your bottom feeder.(even if you feed him separate)

Yes, you can break the flakes up between your fingers.
Most people make the mistake of overfeeding their fish.
Only feed enough that the fish can finish in 3 - 4 minutes.
Twice a day is ok .
Get yourself a catfish or two to eat at the bottom and keep the tank clean.
As a supplement for the catfish you can buy tablets, and feed one tablet for each catfish every three days.

I jsut kind of break of the flakes iwth my fingers and sprinkle the food into the tank. depending on how big the flakes are you will want to do this. This prevents overfeeding and adding just enough food that the fish can eat in a few minutes.

Variety in food will keep the fish healthy, you can use frozen brine shrimp for baby fish if the tetras are real small, you can use sinking pellets for baby fish and small fish, frozen blood worms are another favorite { Cut the cubes into quarters } by all means crush up the flakes, don't over feed !!!

Break up the flakes. It will make it easier for them to eat, and there will be less waste. Only feed as much as they will eat in 3 to 5 minutes twice a day.

It is easier for them to eat smaller flakes, so breaking them up isn't a bad idea, as long as they are still somewhat sizeable. However, they will pick at the flakes that are too large, but it may produce more waste that you'll just have to clean up later.

Crumble them inbetween your fingers. It's really hard for those guys to tear them up because they've got such tiny mouths. Make it easier on the little dudes. They'll appreciate it. Happy fish are living fish. ;)

you can do what you desire and whatever is easiest for you. The water will eventually (3-5 min) will make them soft enough so they break apart on their own, but if you dont want to risk it, that is fine. Fish will involuntarily spit it out if it is too big.

They should be able to eat them as the are, but if you want to you can break them up, just don't over feed them, that would make your water toxic and that will kill them.
