Some of the flakes I feed my danios are bigger then their mouths. Sometimes I'll break them up, but I've noticed that they tend to attack the bigger flakes until they break them up themselves, so for my fish, they're good with it both ways.

I've also noticed that even with bigger flakes, after ten minutes there is usually barely anything remaining in the water, they tend to do a good job of cleaning up after themselves.

Hello, I have had a fresh water (55 gal. tank)and I have raise alto of fish and question about the flake food no matter what size the food it will be all eaten up no matter the size of fish or food. do you stop the filtration when you are feeding the fish? let the water stop for the time when the fish eat, at least 10 minutes and then start the water flotations again remember to only feed them once a day. and try not to over feed. hope this helps you LINDY

i always break up the flakes. I just rub them between my thumb and fingers to make them really fine. It's easier for the fish to eat them that way. They are supposed to consume all the food within 5 minutes so the water doesn't get cloudy. If you have big flakes floating around, it makes much more work for them, although I'm sure they would manage somehow.

I just put the flakes in the tank. The tetra seem to manage them ok. Get some live food for them, they love daphnie.

I usually break up bigger pieces of food for my fish but they would probably eat it anyway.
