I have some fish that like to swim up and down the tank

how many fish and in what size tank?
Some fish just do this for really no apparent reason. Looking for a way to get to bigger waters.
If all your fish are doing it, I would begin to worry. Have you tested your water and are the params fine?

i have a fish that does that..but he doesnt really swim to the top..he more rather floats up and then swims back down..almost like he cant hold himself down. i thought he may be sick but after a while he just quit doing it. every once in a while he will do it again but if you give him a couple of days..he quits.

My goldfish are pretty crazy too. but i think it is normal, maybe they are happy :) I have a big one that swims in front of the tank from left to right and back again for a while, I guess it is somethink for them to do. What would you do in a tank? :)

I have some pictus catfish that are very hyper and swim up and down and across the tank very quickly in a group.

Depends on the type of fish. For some fish that is what they do.
