Dropsy...a bacterial infection that infects the fish from the
inside..causing them to bloat up.

PopEye...where eyes are bulging out of sockets, first signs of
dropsy.

There are 2 possibilitys here. It could be popeye from bad water quality, do you realize that goldfish need 20 gallons with weekly partial water changes. They also live up to 20 years. So I suggest upgrading the aquarium if needed

The other possibility is that its the type of goldfish and it was young when you bought it, but you siad its a fantail, so you already know this isnt the case unless it was misslabled

It is most likely "pop eye" if the eyes are bright red this is the problem. It is not contagious this is cause. Move him into a quarantine tank and get some inexpensive remedy from the locale fish shoppe. There is a 50/50 chance he will make it. Hang in there.

Yes it is POPEYE...and it is a very common occurence among goldfish...they carry alot of diseases among one another when they are at the pet store because of the places they come from.....go to a pet supplies plus or a pet store and get a 7 or 8 dollar semi-aggressive fish...they are more properly taken care of.......you may like your fish but 98% of goldfish get some kind of a disease....

You can probably help that by giving them a salt water dip
you need to use dechlorinated water
