a few weeks ago i got 2 medaka fish (gold ones but i dont think thats relevant) and within the first few days one of them died. we think it was caused by the fact that we didnt rinse the filter cartride properly, because the water went cloudey for about 4 days. however the other one survived, and last week i noticed it was getting fat, but just thought it was caused by me over feeding it. then a couple of days after that it layed eggs, and now they are on the bottom of the tank. and now also, the fishs tail is bent. so my questions are:

1. will the eggs hatch?

2. did the (what we think was a male) fish die bcoz after they mate the male dies (probably a stupid question)

3.why is the (still alive) fishs tail bent?

4.how long in their life span generaly?

thanks.

1. No the eggs will not hatch. Both sexes need to be present when the eggs are laid for them to be viable eggs.

2. Nope. It was something else.

3. She may be holding eggs with her tail, they do that sometimes looking for a plant to attach them to.

4. A couple of years give or take a few months usually.
