25 watts $13.99 I have a 5.5 gallon quarantine tank with one, it works great! Most of my tanks have Tetra, Hagen, Topfin (Petsmart) and Penn Plax hang on the back heaters. This is one of my few submersibles.
You could look at this too. Petsmart will match the online price in the store.

When I had my 5 gallon tank I didn't have a heater because I left the light on long enough during the day. If you do that it will heat the water up. I just kept a thermometer in there so I could make sure the temp stayed right where it should. I had 3 neon tetra, 1 male beta, 1 female molly and a frog. I had it like that for 2 1/2 years.

A 50 watt will cycle less often than the 25 watt. Brand ? You pay for quality and longer user life with a better brand. Drop in heaters are about $10.00 and submersibles are about $30.00.

BTW the guppy and the Betta. splendens are tropical fish!!! - you will need a heater if kept in a cool room in anything but a truly tropical country, especially through the winter months!!

anyway...bigger heater = less work = longer life, if size allows (i.e. the length/height of the tank) get a 50watt Jager heater, (made by Eheim), although the 25watt would work adequately as well!!

I just got one of these for £12 uk sterling, but are one of the cheaper (and by far the best) on the market.
