your gold fish is fine. He isn't swallowing air he is expelling it you just cannot see it. Kind of like you eating and breathing at the same time.
He floats because he chooses to float. You really should feed your fish smaller portions 2-3 times per day. Again, that is up to you. Some people swear by more feedings with less food, some say once a day and that is it.
I feed my tank 3 times a day, I feed my pond fish only 1 time, but they have plants and such to nibble on as well.

You could do that. In my opinion with goldfish its not so much the amount of food as it is quality and freshness of the food that causes the goldfish to float. If your food is older than a month, toss it, its old, rancid and nutritionally void. Flake food is usually some of the worst food on the market and goes bad even quicker than a month. It is causing them to produce gas in the gut and hence to float. If they only do this after eating and straiten out later after the food has passed, its the food. One other thing that could cause this, is high nitrates. We often over look nitrates, and when they soar above 40 or 60 ppm the fish will suffer this way.
Good nitrate levels are below 20 ppm and if you can keep them under 10ppm you have got a pristine system with healthy growing goldfish.
A good food consists of the first ingredient being some sort of whole fish meal, followed by a good seafood buffet. Spirolina is especially good for them. You don't want any food with corn meal, or corn gluten meal (sometimes disguised as gluten meal). That is a cheap filler that indicates cheap no good food. You want about 30% protien and 10% fat, around those numbers. Don't be afraid to look at food labled "tropical", as this mixture I've indicated is more than adiquite for goldfish. Toss in a treat once or twice a week like Hiriki frozen brine shrimp, and they will really thrive. I like HBH products, Omega One is good too. Most of the big name brands like Tetra and Heartz, are not very good at all, despite the fancy packaging.

The 'floating' is not caused by swallowing too much air..
It's more to do with the feed you give him. If you are giving him too much 'floating' pallet, there's higher tendency that it caused by that. Maybe you should consider changing other more healthier brands before it's too late.
The worst is that long term feeding of inferior brands will cause internal organ problem- which are harder to cure- than the goldfishe will be belly-up till his last day.
Take care. Cheers.

I only feed my goldies once a day.
You could moisten the flakes before feeding them to your goldfish,so that they sink right away. You could also try feeding him a blanched frozen pea with the hull removed. If you fish is still very small, cut it up so that the pieces are small enough to fit into his mouth, remove any bits of pea that are not consumed in a half hour. That might help with the "bloat" good luck.

A goldfish is just a carp, a scavenger. Yes feed it only once a day you will save your fishes life and won't have to clean the tank or bowl as often.

first thing if youre tank is fulled of air bubbles above the fish tank water i will clean out the old water and replace a new water cause if you odnt the fish will have hard time to breath under the water . and you shouldnt over feed youre fish cause that will cause the fish died quickely and fast. i have a betta fish and i only feed him least three pieces food like one in the morning and night . that all .

yes, feeding once a day is best.
also, buy the sinking pellets. soak them in water for a few minutes to get all the air out of the food, and then give it to him. :)
