Snails "breathe" through their skin and through an opening called the pneumostome visible on the right side of their bodies.

i have never smelled a snail (sick) any way why would you want to know if it is very important find one and smell it

I have no idea. I've never smelled one. I have no intention of ever getting that close to them to be able to smell them.I think they're gross and slimy.
