This is the truth. My son's dog Cadence, a Rott, woke my daughter-in-law in the middle of the night because the laundry room was in blazes. They have 3 children. When my son gathered his family and went out the front door, Cadence got frightened and went back inside. I'm asuming it was because of the firetrucks and noise. They wouldn't let my son go back in for her. So the family was all huddled together crying over their home and pet when she came around from the back of the house to them. She had ran through the kitchen and through the 'doggie door' to the backyard and jumped the fence. When the news crew arrived, they took her picture and she smiled. Check out my 360 and click on her pic to enlarge. I have another story about how they got her into Germany but don't have enough room. I'll add more at another time. Just check her out and tell me your thoughts.

For a really long time my dog (4 year old Husky Lab mix) has always been scared to cross my kitchen floor. He has to go through to go downstairs, and to go outside. Usually he goes, but very slowly. But just recently (like the past few days) He won't go at all. And he cries b/c he really has to go outside, but he can't go through the kitchen! So we take him on walks, but I am still concerned why he is so scared to walk through the kitchen. Do you know what possibly could be wrong?

I split up with my ex about four years ago we had a staffie that we had from a pup, the ex was a **** i only stayed for Ben (dog), eventually i walked out and had to leave Ben behind. Ocassionally i would go round to the flat to see Ben because he had cancer and i just couldnt let him go and one day he just leapt straight in my lap and gave me a big cuddle. That was the last time i saw him, my ex didnt want me going round there anymore because he had a new girlfriend. Ben was put to sleep about 8 months later but i wasnt there when he went to the vets. I just cant get over not being there for Ben is this normal? or am i just being silly. I was totally over the ex when i left.

My family put our dog to sleep which we've had her for 8 years or longer, is it wrong or stupid of me to want to keep her ashes so I can still have a part of her?

I asked a question today about a puppy with a cold. I got an answer from a participant, who put me down saying I should have thought about not being able to afford care for my puppy before I got her. Just to let you know..and not that I care what you think of me...I saved her from a shelter, spent hundreds of dollars on getting her spayed, shots, vaccinations, toys, food, and countless hours of attention making her feel safe and wanted after being dumped by her previous owner. So after spending most of my earnings on her, she has now come down with a cold, and I was asking for help, not criticism...thank you very much.

we have a new puppy, who seems to have a cold, runny nose..sneezes, and seems to just want to sleep. I really can't afford to take her to a vet at the moment, and I need help. Is there any kind of home remedy for this? One vet told me that she gave her dog robitussin for a cough. Has anybody heard of this, I really don't want to make things worse. Please help.

Hi dog owners... I know how much a dog can cost to buy, and I appreciate different dogs have bigger appetites etc. I need a better idea on things like pet insurance, food, accessories, vaccinations, worming, vets bills, kennels for holidays, and any other hidden costs that come up now and again. Thanks in advance for your advice.

She's about a medium size dog. Is there a bed big enough for her to burrow into or should I just buy a big bed and throw an old blanket over her?

I've been training my dog on my own with what I read from books and articles. We're at the point where we should start working off lead. But I'm really hesitant. I really don't think that my dog can ever be off lead in an unenclosed area. The sound of my voice and the commands I give him just don't interest him as much as catching that squirrel or chasing that rabbit. He has escaped from the fenced yard a few times, and the only reason we were able to catch him is because he tried to climb a tree to get a squirrel, and that slowed him down.

So, my question is, are there some dogs who just can't be off lead?

My dog is a lhaso apso/terrier mix. Also, before someone suggests going to a professional trainer, there are none in my area. Not even a Petsmart.

Randy Jackson – seeing he is always calling everybody “dawg” I thought it would be cool if I called my dog his name. Any thoughts on this???? Ironic, don’t you think??

I've never had a dog to train on my own and I need help! My dog can be really sweet, but he's spoiled rotten. If I repeatedly take him out, he'll pee outside but then he'll come back in to poop. How do I get him to understand he needs to pee and poop outside instead of in the house?
The other problem I'm having with him is he loves to chew. He has plenty of toys and usually doesn't bother other things but one thing he seems to love to do is rip my kitchen floor up..
He also loves to climb up the couch and onto the counter. How do I stop this? I don't mind that he's on the couch, but he loves to get on the counter and drink from the sink. This he picked up on his own. I've repeatedly smacked him for this behavior, but nothing seems to help?
Also, since I work 9 hour days and can't be around to watch him, he stays in a crate. However, he frequently pees in his crate during the day. How can I stop this so I don't have to come hom

please help!! i'm 1 hour before paying vet again!

He was diagnosed last week and as of yesterday became picky about eating his food and today he won't touch it at all. It is Prescription Hills brand which is admittably boring, and he seems interested in everything else but that. Vet hasn't returned call about how many times to feed him or if it will effect his other meds. And cause of his condition I can't just give him anything else, the vets office won't open for a while. ANy of you out there with diabetic pets/people help? Anything about this at all cause its really frustrating, he CAN'T afford not to eat in the first place cause we've just discovered this and he has just been given his insulin shot. Help?

Does anyone else own a Shih-Tzu? My grandma has one, it's a great dog. I usually hate small dogs because they are hyper and yippy, but apparently this breed isn't. The problem is sometimes it throws a tantrum and gets violent, usually without warning. He's very aggressive, and he bites but never breaks skin. The following things usually set him off:

If you put anything on him (like a sweater) the dog throws a fit if you try to take it off. He's worn a sweater for a week before because he was such a problem...

He doesn't really like his feet being touched

Sometimes he'll randomly go berserk

My grandma tells me it's normal for this breed, they want to dominate. I find it unacceptable, especially considering that other times he behaves himself perfectly. Is there any way to cure this problem?

I have never raised a dog from a puppy before. We have a 12 week old Jack Russell Terrier, and yes, I know that they're hyperactive, and that as a puppy he has a short attention span.

We're crate-training him to housebreak him. So far, he's had very few accidents, due to our ever-watchful eyes.

The problem I have is sometimes when I take him out to toilet him, he is more interested in biting my pants leg, attacking the leash, or eating mulch.

How can I get him to stop biting my pants leg, first and foremost? The mulch I assume I can break him of, and probably just keep him away from it. The leash, I guess I just figure that he'll get used to it. But the pantsleg thing is very annoying when you're trying to get him to poop.
