I have never raised a dog from a puppy before. We have a 12 week old Jack Russell Terrier, and yes, I know that they're hyperactive, and that as a puppy he has a short attention span.

We're crate-training him to housebreak him. So far, he's had very few accidents, due to our ever-watchful eyes.

The problem I have is sometimes when I take him out to toilet him, he is more interested in biting my pants leg, attacking the leash, or eating mulch.

How can I get him to stop biting my pants leg, first and foremost? The mulch I assume I can break him of, and probably just keep him away from it. The leash, I guess I just figure that he'll get used to it. But the pantsleg thing is very annoying when you're trying to get him to poop.

Everytime your dog mouths/bites something you don't want him to cry out loudly OW and ignore him for a few seconds. Then go back to normal. Do this everytime he does it, make sure everyone in your house does the same, and you should stop him play biting very quickly.

Ok what is going on is he is not properly leash trained and he is telling you what he wants to do and that is play, What you need to do and I recommend that everyone do is go to a puppy training class, they are cheap and well worth it. The biting of the pants leg, I have two shelties that do that to me and thats their way of herding me to do what they want me to do, so my recommendation? If you don't want them to do it then stop it here and now, get right in the puppys face and in a stern but gentle and calm voice say no when the puppy does it. Hope that helps

Just ignore him. Once he realizes that it is not getting him attention he will stop. I assume right now you are trying to shake him off or pushing him away. Just ignore him. It will take along time to train that little guy. Good luck

tell him to stop and if he doesnt tap him on the nose. You want your dog to know when you mean business. No means No and he should stop! He and you will be a happy dog when we gets older
