Sounds like his sortof choking or about to vomit, he's done it before but only once in a while. He's been doing it almost every ten minutes for hours now. What can I do, is it some sort of dog version of a sore throat?

He is over 15 years old. I just noticed tonight that his mouth is starting to swell (it has happened twice before) So i administered a pain pill for dogs as well as dental antibiotics that we keep on hand for him. Is this all that I can do for him? He usually gets over it in a couple of days but we caught it earlier than we normally do. Please don't think im cruel or anything but i can't take him to the vet unless he's dieing (that is why we have meds at our house) He was to be euthanized at the pound but we went to court to fight for him...best dog we have ever had everyone we know thinks so too! Anyway he is terrified and he had bad teeth when we got him but otherwise he is so healthy and still plays like a pup...Are there any home treatments besides what im doing that might help him heal faster...he's my buddy and i want him to be as comfortable as possible!

My neighbor's dog won't stop barking for 2 hours at night when left outside until, I guess, falls asleep. Will he be ever be trained that way??

We found a large yellow dog running the streets near our house in the country. We THINK he may be a hunting dog gone missing, but has been out for at least a week judging by his scrawneyness. He's a well cared for dog, as far as we can tell. Neutered, dental, flea treatment (so it seems.) What we need to know is the best way to get him home.

Do hunters even much care when they lose a dog?

What should we do? Shelter is out, except for checking on reports. Keeping the dog is not out of the question.

He's been scratching daily for over a month, and the vet gave him Cephlexin and Atarax along with this Mesaleb medicated shampoo that I was told to give him every other day and it still isn't working. We just tried switching his food 2 days ago because his puppy food had dye in it to see if that could be it. No improvements yet...we've also tried aloe baby oil but not much luck there either. Ummm he likes digging up roots and biting other plants, which I'm still trying to get him to stop doing. He dry heaves in the morning and every 4 or 5 days does vomit in the mornings. Last time it was one solid lump of vomit, almost like cookie dough texture. He drinks tap water. There are also two Chihuahuas in the household who eat the same food and drink the same water and are fine. Is he alergic to something? Is there anything else I can try? It's miserable watching him scratch all the time, and it's hard because it gets frustrating. Any ideas? Thank you so much for any response...

I just inherited a 7 year old cutie-patootie Pekinese dog. I love him so much. But every time my face gets too close to his, or if I get a little too lovie-dovie snuggly with him, he will growl. I immediately stop because I’m fearful I just might get bitten.

I’ve never had a Pekinese before. What would cause him to growl like that? Or, is that his way of saying “I love you too”?

as soon as i get my clothes on the floor on their way to the hamper, my little dog sets up camp and immediately sleeps on them! i'm not squeamish or anything (these clothes will be meeting the washing machine anyway), but i am concerned why he does this - should i view this as a sign of separation anxiety? please reply!

I live in an apartment complex in Georgia, I see dogs all the time without their leashes and don't complain. Tonight I let my dog out for a second to do his business and my neighbor was coming back from a walk with his dog and both the dogs went at it. Granted, I was in the wrong, but I don't appreciate the neighbor yelling at me the way he did as I never normally go without my leash. We also have a neighbor who ALWAYS never puts on their dogs leash and he never yells at THAT dog. He threatened to call the cops on me. Can he do that? I thought that since apartments were technically private property cops can't handle that kind of thing...any opinions are appreciated...thanks. PS-after a few other problems i've had with this apartment complex, i'm probably moving anyway in the fall so won't be dealing with him much longer. (after living here a year and a half)

Can my dog get fleas/ticks just by walking around the block? There are other dogs in the area (all owned, no strays), he'd be walking on the sidewalk and possibly through other people's yards.

Also, is one bath with flea+tick shampoo enough to prevent/deter fleas and ticks, or do I need medication?

My nine month old golden is very well behaved and mellow. But recently, a friend left his dog (a chow mixed) with me. They seem to be getting along fine but 2 nights ago, the chow was guarding her toy and my golden was trying to get close to her and they ended up in a big fight that I had to pull them apart. But today, my golden bit the chow's eye and it was bleeding. My friend took her to the vet but what am I supposed to do to stop his aggressive behavior? He is the most friendly thing ever, but the girl is pretty protective of her stuff. Its usually her who initiates fights and my golden is mellow and gets along with everyone. The chow would even bite little kids who attempt to bite her and isn't very friendly with other dogs. But he has released all of his anger out on her today. What can I do to stop this kind of behavior so it doesn't happen again?

my dog was neutered last thursday, and ever since he seems to be urinating less and is less interested in drinking water. does anyone know if this is a "normal" side-effect after surgery? I took him into the vet this saturday because he had an upset stomach, and the Dr. prescribed an antibiotic, and wasnt too concerned that he didnt seem to be drinking very much water. Has anyone else experienced this?

She loves to play ball and it is hard to get her to stop and rest. She will finally get to a point when she gets her drink and plops down for the next 20 mins or so panting really hard. It scares me. When she goes for walks she pulls, which we are trying to break her of, but it doesn't seem to be working. By the time we get home she is totally out of breath and exhausted. It is usually only around 1 or 2 blocks!

I am sure this is a common problem across the country.
As in my area my country home became a city in the booming sprawl. Both of my neighbors have large dogs. Now I love animals. But constantly crossing over onto my property disturbing my family, even scaring them needs to stop. What do I do? Put up a fence at my own expense? I have 5 acres of land that is thousands of dollars. Complain to the city?
There is a leash law, but is it really enforceable?
Suggestions on how to handle. Both neighbors are repeat offenders. I enjoy my privacy and peace. HELP.
