Dogs biting at their paws is not a sign of a dog needing its anal glands unclogged.. Although smaller breed dogs do have a tendency to have more problems with their anal sacs getting clogged. The anal sacs are around the rectum of your dog not the paws.
This time of year there can be a lot of dew on the ground. When there is pollen in the air it can settle on the ground.
When your dog walks on the grass it can get the pollen on its paws causing the paws to itch.
Try and wash the dog's paws off when it comes in the house.
I had this problem with my dog.

My gran and grandads yorkshire terrier does the same thing. It ended up with a little cyst between the pads on it's paw, we don't know if it was biting because of the cyst or if the cyst was caused by the biting. Is there anything wrong with the paws? ETA what the person above me said rings a bell, I'm sure the vet said it could be an allergy, my gran and grandad had just put down bark chippings in their garden.

Biting paws can be a sign of boredom or a sign of an allergy. Try giving more toys and such to play with. If doing this does not stop the chewing then a visit to the vet is in order to find out what the dog is allergic to.

There is such a thing as anal glands getting impacted, but you will know if that happens because the dog will rub its rear across the floor.

She may have an allergy...most allergies that dogs suffer from are food related, and can manifest as hot spots, ear infections, itchy dry skin, dull coat, bad breath, and so much more.

I suggest switching her food to a non allergic formula like Fish and Chips (trout and sweet potato) or Lamb Millet and Rice, which are wheat, corn, chicken, preservative, color, sugar/sweetener, by product, and animal digest free. You can read more about it here: http://www.frrco.com/121668

I would try a non allergic food first, before anything, and give about 2 months on the new food to see if the symptoms cease. If the paw biting/licking continues, she may have an environmental allergy. These are much more tricky to pin point, and you may have to put your dog through an expensive allergy test at the vets office.

For the meantime, swich her food (gradually at first. 25% new mixed with 75% old) and see if there is a difference.

The story about the anus gland is completely ridiculous. How could there be a connection? I think your friend was making fun of you.
as for biting her paws, if she's a puppy it's sort of like a game, get her a nice chew that she'll enjoy more. If she's older, it could be like a bad habit, like biting your nails for humans, still give her a more pleasant chew and as long as she is not injuring herself there is no problem.
Also play with her more, because she sounds bored. Is she tied up by any chance?

Stress, Allergies, or Boredom.

THE ANAL GLAND THING IS WRONG. when dogs' anal gland needs attention, they skid their bottoms on the ground.

This really depends on your dog. I suggest you take her to the vet because they know your situation the best.

Are their allergens in her food?
What about her environment could be stressing her out?
Is she getting enough mental/physical stimulation?

Most dogs start this from bordom, stress or depression. You may want to take your little friends to the vet as this soon turns into a bad habbit (like a human chewing on their nails) and they can get very sore and even infected.
Good Luck and i hope she gets better soon

Could be an allergy. My dog has one - it affects her ears, paws and anus.

My dog does this all the time. It could either be skin allergies (ask your vet) or a nervous habit like my dog has.

when my dog is keeping herself entertained she bites at her paws both front and back. i don't worry about it as long as she's not hurting herself and she's doing it playfully. if i was to see her do it roughly i would make her stop by distracting her with either a treat of throwing her tennis ball for her
