She loves to chase squirrels and play ball but I took her to play ball yesterday and after eagerly chasing down the ball, she put her tail between her legs and went straight back to the car (I have a hard time normally getting her to come back to the car). She now curls up in the shoe closet and can't get up on the bed and I had to lift her into the car to go for a walk tonight. When she jumped out of the car, she squelled. She seems to labor going up and down stairs but does not favor any legs or anything. This is the 4th time this has happened in the past year and she seems OK after about a week (although last time it was more like 2). I have massaged all over her muscles and stomach and nothing seems to make her whimper. I assume she has been pulling a shoulder muscle or something?? Does this sound right? What do you think it is? Is there anything I can do? She seems pretty listless and in discomfort. Do you think it requires vet attention? Should I stop running her?

My dog was put under anesthesia to be spayed. Here oxygen level dropped to 68% and the vet took her off immediately. Thinking it wasa fluke he put her back on the anesthesia, and the same thing happened. His words were"she went blue on us." He says he has never seen this before. Is there an underlying reason this would happen, or just a reaction to the anesthesia itself? Anyone have any experience with this?

Does anyone know what might be wrong? I have a Germon Shaphard/Lab mix dog, about 80lbs. Last december, my dog started sneezing periodically, and it gradually kept increasing in frequency over the next couple months. I couldn't afford to take him to the vet, so I kept getting worse. The top of his mussel started getting swollen and his breathing became audibly partially obstructed in his nasal passages. The inflammation has just increased as time has gone by, of which is very tender to palpation. He has sneezed so much a couple times, he has started a nose bleed. I took him to the vet finally, and the vet did a quick assessment and gave me an antibiotic, but its not doing anything, just getting worse. I have given my dog ibuprofin a couple times for the pain, and the swelling did reduce a little once, but came back. Anyone have any ideas? I am sure an X-ray and blood really needs to be done, but I can't afford that. The Antibiotics cost be $75.

My lab is just 4 months and my son 6 years old. He obeys me but while playing with my son invariably bites him, same case with my wife. Will that stop once he matures or something needs to be done? We have him since he was 5 weeks old. Generally if anyone's hand goes in lab's mouth, he waits for us to say "No" or "Ouch" to let go of the hand.

I have a yellow lab that is 7 years old. She's been depressed for the past 4 years, since our other dog died. A year later, we thought we could cheer her up by getting her a new puppy. That worked for about a month or so. About two months ago, she began to become extremely depressed and got into biting up her paws to the point that they would bleed badly. I've taken her to the vet many times, and she's not sick. About a month ago, we got another lab puppy to make her happy. She's been have a lot of fun until about last week. She's become extremely lazy and eats and drinks very little. I'm starting to become very nervous that she will get very sick. Please help! Any suggestions will help.

Hi everyone who was kind enough to bring me support the last few days. They've been horrible. The emptiness was extremely painful. On Saturday, we went to our puppy of 13 yrs' memorial service at a pet cemetary. They let us be with him in a room for quite some time. The sight of him made me so very happy and I kept hugging and hugging him. It felt so good to hold him one more time, smell him one more time. He looked at peace and looked as though he was young and healthy again. He was a beautiful black labrador, just beautiful and the kindest being ever. We walk through the pet cemetary while he was being cremated. Then they gave me his ashes. I will forever have him with me, always. This help bring closure which I desperately needed. Again thank you to all for your thoughts and prayers. He is for sure in Heaven and waiting for me. I'm lighting a candle tonight for him and all the beautiful furry beings that have left to go to Heaven and await us at Rainbow Bridge.

My dog jumed out of the window of a moving car going 50 mph. He seems fine except some minor scrapes and broken nails. This was three days ago and hes been running around. He does lick his nails alot though and after a couple of days, he has aquired a tiny limp.

Dogs have been around for hundreds of years, without vaccinations but a strong immune system. Wouldn't vaccinating them not be good to weeding out the weak and allowing the stronger to continue their genes?

This is just a theoretical question... Given that important diseases like rabies should be vaccinated against because its such a communal disease.

And how much is too much? Should we vaccinate our dogs against everything no matter the price?

I rescued my pit from the humane society last month. She was underfed/underweight due to neglect. The humane society had her on science diet. They told me her little bald patches were not mange (she was tested) due to alopecia or stress. They said after regular feeding on the food, we should see her hair come back (less stress, exercise, love, etc.)... well, I didnt see improvement and then someone at the petstore advised me it looked like she has hot spots. One of the girls at petsmart told me she had the same issue with her dogs... and recommended canidae. I figured it is possible the dog is allergic to wheat/by products, fillers and crap... so I am in the process of switching her to canidae from her science diet. I also restrict her treats to all natrual (mother hubbard, etc.) I want to knowhow others in the same situation and how your dog improved? other advice ideas for topical treatment? i bought some hot spot (tea tree oil spray) for her as well.. what else can i do, no drugs!

I try to play with my puppy alot but it does not seem to be enough. If i have to clean or something i put him in his crate or block off the kitchen so he can play in there but he just barks and whines. He is not ment to go outside yet he has to have his last set of shots by the end of the month, but he gets so crazy i have started walking him around the front of my apartment building to make him get tired. This seems to work for a while but he will wake up bark and i will play with him again but he still barks when i have to do something. I cant even have a shower with out him going crazy in his crate. Any ideas for what i could do to try and get him to chill out more...he is 3 months old and he is a pomapoo.

My Boxer ***** is 18 mths old and I think she is coming into season. Can you list me the signs to look out for (behaviour, physical appearances)? I am keen to get her spayed when she has had her first season (recommended by our vet that she has one first).

My dog and I have been vaccinated against rabies. But in todays society what are the chances we would ever get rabies?

i have never met someone that got rabies, nor have i ever seen a dog have rabies. Im sure someone has but, are the chances so slim that i have a better chance of getting hit by lightning? Are we being over protective?
Please dont say "better safe then sorry" if we really believed that then we would have a million needles in us right now.

Also i know if you get rabies (in the US) its treatable. Is the same for dogs?
