Sometimes dogs lack certain vitamins in their diet so they eat grass to replace them. You can actually buy alfalfa tablets at the pet store in the dog section to give them as a "treat" and they will usually stop the grass eating. Some dogs also use grass as a method of relieving an upset stomach byhelping them purge.

Most people think itt is to help aid digestion. Some say dogs eat grass simply because it tastes good. However, couch grass is so well loved by dogs that its botanical name is Agrospyron canina (canis is dog). Some people believe that dogs eat the grass to help cleanse their bowels and for removal of worms.
But, will we ever know? I wish my dog would tell me why she eats grass daily.

My dog just likes grass. Eats it all the time. He's only been sick 1 time, but he eats it every day. I think he just likes the taste of grass.
