i'm looking after this dog for a week while our friends are on holiday. he has been eating his dry food but a few nights ago he was sick. he's been sick a few times since and now he hasn't eaten anything for about three days. my mum fed him a piece of meat, just so that he had eaten SOMETHING, but he threw the meat up too. he seems fine otherwise, and still wants to play and go on walks. he likes swimming, and i wondered if the river water might have affected him? i really need help coz he's a lovely dog and i feel bad that he's not eating. please give me some advice- i would rather NOT take him to the vet though.

Our 9 week old puppy is snapping and biting, the kids mostly, when they play with him, especially first thing in the morning when they get up and greet him. He doesnt do it to me or my husband. I have told them to say NO in a loud voice and put him to bed and ignore him for 5 mins after doing it. The rest of the time he is adorable.

Three days have passed since my dogs last fought. They both have scars but one of them (the older one) is scared badly. Lately I have succeeded in keeping them separated but I feel that that would not help at all especially after watching an episode of the dog whisperer who dealt with a pit bull with a very similar situation as mine. He says to keep the dogs around each other so they can become social and feel what it's like to be part of a pack. Well today both dogs were together, I noticed that as I got close to them (thinking they were going to fight so I can easily stop it before it happens) the younger dog began to growl at the older one. Could the younger dog be trying to fight for a higher position in the pack? It seems as though when any of my family members get near them, the younger one wants to fight the older one. How can I enforce a "no fighting" rule?

I'm buying a Lab puppy and have found, what I think, a good breeder. I am, however, concerned about the breeder. Please give me your advice whether you feel this breeder is good or not, based on what I know about her.

a. She has 8 female and 3 male dogs of which she breeds from.
b. She sells APR registered puppies.
c. She tests her breeding stock for hip dysplasia but not elbow dysplasia or PRA.
d. She keeps the dogs in her home but her home is very messy and dirty (eg. dusty, un-clean, messy etc.).
e. She has 3-4 LABRADOR litters per year.
f. She not only breeds Labs, she breeds English Bulldogs and Bloodhounds.
g. None of the pups she sell come with neutering contracts.
h. She offers a 1 year health guarantee, 3 day welcome-home health guarantee and a 2 year return guarantee.
i. She uses electric shock collars on all of her dogs unless over the age of 10.
j. The sire of my Lab pup is 5 years old and the dam is 10 years old.

Hard decision for me. Your comments/opinion?

My dog smells & snores , is grumpy & dirty and has really horrid habits, but I love her so much and cuddle her all the time. Are we dog lovers mad ? my husband only has to fart and I moan at him.

Do Shih Tzu's ever come in solid colors? Mine is nearly all white except for a touch of apricot on tips of ears and back.

Our 3 year old medium sized mixed breed (a "Heinz 57", or perhaps more like 157!) came to us as a rescue quite some time ago. She not seem to defaecate in one spot. She goes just a little bit, then walks around all hunched up like she's trying to go but can't get it out. In fact, sometimes she actually does stop, it looks like she's trying to go, and nothing comes out.

She'll then walk a few more steps, or even a whole lot of steps, until she eventually does eliminate a little bit more. This strange hunch-walk-poop procedure is repeated several times over the course of 5-10 minutes until she's finally done going.

Her bowel movements seem normal otherwise, not too hard nor too soft. She is current on shots, so worms don't seem likely. Any (serious) ideas as to what could be causing this? Could someone have perhaps kicked her in the rear in her earlier years and harmed her somehow? Or maybe abused her for pooping and she's just afraid to go?

I would like to know your story regarding neutering a dog, because I want to know the difference between the aggression level of a dog before and after he gets neutered.

My dog is about 7 months old now and I have noticed his aggression level has been really increasing lately... Is it due to his man hood to seek mates? Thanks

I'm gonna get a dog soon, not sure what kind. But I want to know everything you can tell me about showing your dog. Agility, Obedience, Weight Pulling. What are the best dogs for each thing? What are all the subjects you can compete your dog at? How long does it take to train it? At what age should you start training it for competing? I am 12 years old, will that have anything to do with my ability to show the dog? Will it limit my ability at what I can show it doing? What dogs tend to be the best for each subject? I'm thinking Rottweiler, or Staffordshire(Either Am, or Bull) or a Boxer, or a American Bulldog, if I can convince my parents to get one. What subjects do they tend to be best at? Like I said... everything you can possibly, and are willing to tell me.

Please tell me anything you might know. Even if it's not much, or it's just a link or two. I'd really appreciate it. And I thank you to anyone who answers this.

I recently took my dog to the vet. He was showing signs of Cushing's Disease(drinking lots of water, lethargic, pot belly). His bloood test has a high enzyme count in the liver. He has to go back in next week for the Cushing's test which involves fasting, then two different tests within eight hours. What kind of life can a dog have with Cushing's Disease? Will it be a good quality life? How often will he need to go in for the doctor to monitor his blood tests?

I love to help friends and i have not heard from this one in 1-2 years although she lives across the street. She recently purchased a home and gave contacted my wife to give us some free heater covers. I warned my wife that i didnt want them and it would bring me trouble. [And here we are today] I missed helping her move. And she has called me 5+ times in the last week, but i offered to help move her mom. Yesterday she called me to help move her air conditioners before the landlord took over the apartment. I carried them across the hall and instantly became sick from the smell in her moms house. The problem is:
1] the are dirty pigs that dont clean there apartment
2] they have had a dog for 7 years and let it sh?t and urinate in the apartment creating a terrible smell. The whole building smells like her dog.
3] I am allergic to dust and dogs and strong odors get me sick.

I wanna stay friends but i refuse to help her mom move. anyone got any advice?

My dog was crate trained perfectly until I took a 3 week vacation and left the dog with some friends. It is my guess that they didn't take him out to pee nearly as often as they should have and now my dog has gotten accustomed to peeing in his kennel everyday. The vet said he is healthy and the kennel is the right size for him. He is not left in the kennel too long either. Sometimes he pees when he has only been in there for one hour! How do I train him that the crate is not his bathroom?

my new rottie/lab cross that I just adopted from the pound has bone cancer in his right front leg. The vet says the leg can be removed but he may only have 3-6 months after that to live. Should I put him through all that surgery and recovery or should I just let it go and then put him to sleep when it gets painful?

I'm really sad for my dog he is the best dog in the world to me. I don't know what to do so I need any ideas!?

I am thinking about getting another dog from our local Boxer rescue. I have a 7mo old male Boxer right now, and would love for him to have a companion.

I have never had a dog from a rescue before. What things should I take into consideration that I may not have thought about?
