No. The only time if they repeditally scratch themselves is if they have fleas, are being bathed to often, have soap from previous baths not washed out completly (even though you cant see it it can dry), or if the have dandraff. They also can have Ticks that need to be removed ASAP along with the fleas if present. A simple flea and tick shampoo will do while you bathe him. Now dogs can have a itch like a human so dont get to worried unless it is presistnant!

No, they only usually scratch themselves if they have an itch.....
If your talking about a dog you have, I would look for fleas. Give the dog a bath with a good flea and tick soap. If even after that the dog still scratches, call your vet. The dog may have an allergy or some other skin problem.

Yeah. Well when you have an itch what do you do? You scratch it right. But the difference is 1)its ok when you scratch because your dandriff and hair doesnt go all over 2) they have skin allergies 3)they can get fleas and whatnot

If your dog is a shaggy dog and scratches a lot it is an indication that you need to brush his hair. He might have some excess hair that he is trying to scratch of.

Worms, problems with anal glands, itchy skin, boredom along with fleas and ticks can cause scratching in dogs.

NOT ALWAYS. CHECK FOR SKIN PROBLEMS AND PROTECT THEM FROM MOSQUITO/BUG BITES. MY DOGS WERE ACTUALLY ALLERGIC TO FLEA BITES AND HAD TO TREATED WITH STEROID'S. USE A PRODUCT LIKE ADVANTAGE TO PREVENT FLEA/ INSECT BITES. ALSO TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM DOG FOOD PRODUCTS WITH ALOT OF FOOD COLORING, AS SOME DOGS AREN'T TOLERANT OF ALL THE ADDITIVES USED FOR THE "PRETTY" COLORING USED FOR ADVERTISING. KEEP IT SIMPLE.
