i have made the mistake of touching my eyes [mainly removing contact lenses and adjusting them while they're in, or rubbing] without washing my hands after i've played with my dog. she's a clean dog and i always rinse my eyes after i make this mistake [usually down to forgetfulness], but can this cause me real damage? i know that cat pooh can cause you blindness because of a certain bacteria/worm in their pooh, but i don't know about dogs and i know dogs play in the garden, where cats can wonder around and leave their mark, or are all pets vaccinated now a days?

am i being over-cautious? :(

my eyes seem normal at the moment.

thanks.

Is it better to get a puppy you can train yourself and will adapt better in a new home or an older dog that is past the destructive phase? We have no other pets or children...

So if you dont know me, i live part time in Switzerland. I see many people parading around their dogs downtown with their ribs showing (of many different breeds). They dont look like they are really starving. But After watching "Animal Cops" i thought that it meant the dog was being underfed. Is this true???

We need your help to save police K-9’s. Please help COPS stop proposed legislation that will eliminate police dogs used for law enforcement and rescue activities.

The legislation, California Assembly Bill 1634 authored by Assemblymember Lloyd Levine has been craftily titled the “Healthy Pets Act” but the effect would be to force the surgical sterilization of all dogs and cats. Elimination of future police dogs would devastate police K-9 departments. AB 1634 would also eliminate many guide dogs for the blind and service dogs for the disabled.

Please sign our online petition in opposition to AB 1634.

The bill mandates all dogs and cats must be neutered at four months of age, with few exemptions. And the remaining pure bred animals with exemptions would be taxed and regulated by a newly created government bureaucracy. The legislation even threatens criminal penalties--just what we need--police arresting citizens for having unneutered cats and dogs!

Just wondering if there was a pill that prevented dogs from getting pregnant. I heard for men (humans) there was one so logically is there for one for male dogs too.

Please don't say spayed and neutering. I'm just interested in alternatives.

I am wondering where to put a big box for my dog that is due to have puppies just over 2 weeks away.

My mam thinks it should be in the shed but I think it should be in the house because my dog sleeps in the house and when she is in labour and I doubt she will go out to the shed especially since it will probally be at night when she has them and she will be in the house.

What should be put into the box for the puppies and the dog?

And how will I get her to have the puppies in the box?

My dog is less then two years old and we just moved into another house. The people there before us had animals in the house too. My dog is house trained besides minor accidents. Now he is marking everything all of the time! If I put him in a cage I come home to a total mess to clean up in there plus he makes himself a mess! I'm so upset and I'm lost at what to do?

Ok, so my fiancee and I just got a puppy, we bought her for $450.00, she is AKC. The day after we got her the breeder called us and that one of his other puppies just tested positive for Parvo, and that we should get Bella to the vet to get her tested. So we did, and she tested positve for parvo.

We had three choices, either we let the vet treat her, or we take her home and treat her ourselves, or have the breeder treat her. To take her home and treat her it would've costed around $150.00. Before we made our choice we called the breeder and gave him the low-down. He offered to treat her for us and that he would reimburse us the cost, but that he hasn't ever treated a dog for Parvo. The vet said that if we take her home, her chances of living are slim. We let the vet treat her, and the bill was $608.00, now she's fine and healthy again.

What amount (if any) do you think the breeder should pay? I think he should reimburse us the $450.00 that we paid to get her.

Hi everyone I have a 12 year old yorkie, she has slipping knee cap and the other day on a visit to the vets they found a big lump in her breast . I was disgusted that I had not picked up on it sooner and neither did the vet when they saw her the week before. They have booked her back in to be seen in a week and a half, but yesterday I found another one and it si around the same size. I am really scared I am going to lose her. I have had her since she was born and her mum before her. If anyone can help prepare me for the worst and what else it may be i would be greatful. many thanks

I adopted a chihuahua a week ago and it is quite obvious from his teeth and all that he has never been on a dog foog diet espeically dry food! He won't touch it! I've tryed different brands, chicken broth on top, Iams gravy and nothing except for a few very desperate moments of bites of the wet food. I am worried about his nutrition, I think he has lost at least a pound.. Does anyone know of homemade dog food reipes that are truly sufficient in ingredients!! Thank you for any help.

We recently discovered my dog needs to have surgery to remove 2 tumors, one is fatty, and the other is possibly malignent. The vet discovered in doing her bloodwork that the toxin levels of her liver are slightly elevated. He recommended Science Diet Prescription ID dog food and a good teeth cleaning to help this. The problem is she does not like this food... I have 2 vets, (one for routine things, and one for more detailed care) Both of which are die hard Science Diet guys (they sell it). Does anybody know of a comparable dog food, or even one that is better? I have heard Science Diet isn't as good as people say anyway.

My husband was up all night with my dog because he was puking and pooping out blood. When I woke up this morning I had notice the blood on his fur on his back end and gave him a bath then he went out pooped again I watched and noticed that it was bright red and he had only pooped blood. No stool this time.We had this problem before but it went away and wasn't as bad.He as of right now is running around the house playful as ever being silly like nothing is wrong. His eating habit well he was never a big eater a bowl of food would last him two days on average he drinks plenty of water though its new orleans water and I'm concerned cause I heard roomers of their water being bad to drink even now. He's two years old going on 3 in June he is up to date with all his shots we ran out of heart guard last month. Now the stool he did do was yellow brownish and soft like a frosty. But now its mostly blood that he's pooping out.And bright in color.I can't afford to take my boy to the vet and very upset.

We are taking our dog in for his shots next weekend, he is eight years old. He hasn't had his vacinations for a while and is due. The vet asked on the phone if he needs rabies shots too. I'm not sure, but he is not fixed and he does tend to get away from us sometimes. We live in a city, but still..

It seems beagles, and dogs in general have a smelly gland in their hind area. I have heard feeding the dog pumpkin will help with the release of the gland and reduce the smell.
