Anal glands have to be expressed occasionally. We have the vet do during checkups and the groomer do when nails are clipped and dog bath.

RE:
How do you deal with a Beagle's smelly hind glands?
It seems beagles, and dogs in general have a smelly gland in their hind area. I have heard feeding the dog pumpkin will help with the release of the gland and reduce the smell.

It sounds like the anal glands are full and need to be expressed by a vet. Pumpkin is good, but it won't automatically express the glands. It's not that expensive to have done, and it doesn't take that long, for the vet to do it. I wouldn't let it go too long, because it can become very painful for the dog, get infected, and create more problems. You can also tell your vet, to show you how you can do it yourself, next time they need to be emptied.

The easiest and quickest way to deal with anal glands is to have the vet express them. Sometimes they are infected and only your vet is qualified to tell you if this is the case and prescribed the proper medicine to correct the problem. Be prepared though, once they have been expressed you may find that it is something that needs to be done frequently.
By the way, beagles aren't really known to have more problems with the anal glands than any other breed.

No, pumpkin will not automatically express the anal glands. They should be expressed by someone who has experience in doing it, like a vet or dog groomer. It's only around $20 and is much safer than doing it yourself.

These glands are their anal glands. They scent their poo. Anal glands can become impacted, which is extremely sore for an animal. Often animals with impacted anal glands present dragging their bottoms along the ground or licking/biting that area.
Your vet can express the anal glands for you and even show you how to do it. I can vouch that the smell is one of the worst on earth, after death and diseased guts. If an impacted anal gland is not expressed it can lead to an abscess in the anal gland - far more smelly and uncomfortable and far more expensive!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7rk
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Some dogs seem to need the anal glands expressed and this is usually done at the vet or the pet groomer. It's yucky.
Canned pumpkin (plain, not pie filling)is good to try. It's good fiber for the dog and you have nothing to lose by trying it.
