Sweet potatoes are an excellent food unless you have a diabetic dog. Meat should be the mainstay in the diet and sweet potato should not be a large portion by comparison. Are you home cooking?
Things that are good in sweet potatoes:
High in Fiber (4g - one medium sized sweet potato)
Fat Free
Low in Sodium
Low in Cholesterol and Saturated Fat
A Good Source of Vitamin B6, Manganese, Vitamin A and Vitamin C

Sweet potatoes are a super food for people and for dogs. They are very healthy, but not if that was all you were feeding your dog, of course. What you'd want to avoid is the seasonings and the butter that people usually slather these potatoes with. : ) Also, most dogs love the taste. You should peel them and de-eye them before cooking and serving. If you bake them, you can bake them in the skin and then peel before mashing to feed to the dog.

No, as long as they are not fried, battered or seasoned. They are high in B vitamins. Just don't overdo it. I LOVE sweet potatos. Yams are good for them too. Just don't feed onions, or fried foods or seasoned foods. A little bit of avocado is really good for their skin and coat, but don't feed it to birds or cats. No chocolate either. Dog food is best, with a LOW or no grain content.

They are good for them, but don't give a dog a lot of anything else besides its dog food that it is use to because it will cause the dog to have diarrhea and it will cause dehydration!

Perfectly fine to give to them, but hopefully your not thinking of that being it's only food source! Much more is needed for them!
