My husband was up all night with my dog because he was puking and pooping out blood. When I woke up this morning I had notice the blood on his fur on his back end and gave him a bath then he went out pooped again I watched and noticed that it was bright red and he had only pooped blood. No stool this time.We had this problem before but it went away and wasn't as bad.He as of right now is running around the house playful as ever being silly like nothing is wrong. His eating habit well he was never a big eater a bowl of food would last him two days on average he drinks plenty of water though its new orleans water and I'm concerned cause I heard roomers of their water being bad to drink even now. He's two years old going on 3 in June he is up to date with all his shots we ran out of heart guard last month. Now the stool he did do was yellow brownish and soft like a frosty. But now its mostly blood that he's pooping out.And bright in color.I can't afford to take my boy to the vet and very upset.

It could be a variety of things.

You NEED to take your dog to the vet, whenever there is blood anywhere there isn't supposed to, there is a major problem.

Pooping Red Blood

Golly, pooping blood wouldn't be normal for a dog would it? I heard once that the reason blood is bright red is so people wouldn't ignore it, but would notice it right away and do something to stop it from coming out of the body because blood belongs inside a body not outside. You know, if I was concerned about a training method for my dog, I might ask that question here on DS. If, however, I was concerned about blood coming out of my dog, I might ask that quesion of DVM - and I would ask it very quickly as well. What do you think of just giving the vet a ring about this? .Seems like an appropriate thing to me.

There is no excuse not to take your dog to the vet. It puzzles me that you can afford a computer and the internet but not veterinary fees.

Your dog is haemorrhaging from his back passage - no matter which way you look at it, this is bad and there is no option but to take him to the vet - and fast.

Bright red blood is undigested (fresh) and often therefore from the colon. Very bad. Vomiting too - even worse.

I don't know how else to convince you how serious this is - your dog is pooing blood, and if that isn't enough to convince you - I mean what would you do if YOU were passing blood?? Or your children?

Bright red blood in the stool and vomit is very bad. He probably has an ulcer somewhere in his digestive tract that is bleeding. Since he gushed blood at one point, I would think it is hemorraging. He needs to go the vet now, immediately, or he could bleed out (and die). Many vets will offer some sort of payment plan, where you can pay as much as you can for as long as you need to. You just need to make an effort and they will meet you half-way. You may also want to check the yellow pages for a free or reduced emergency vet clinic, which generally are available in large cities.

Obviously pooping blood is not normal at all. Your poor dog has a problem and needs to go to the vet.
Put yourself in his position. As a responsible pet owner, you need to take him. When you took on the responsibility of a pet, you also took on the responsibility of that pet's care and well-being. If you can't do that, you should not have a pet and you should have thought about that before getting one.
Check with your vet and ask them about Care Credit. It's a service that will pay your vet bill and then send you monthly bills until you pay it off.
If you were pooping blood, I bet you would be at the doctor immediately, wouldn't you? Please take your dog in to be seen. He can't do it himself and depends on you. Don't let him down.

Hemorrhagic stool does not mean an ulcer. digested blood is brown to black (in vomit and stool-coffee grounds or tarry), plus dogs do not get ulcers for the same reasons people do. Ulcers without underlying disease like cancers are very rare. Blood in his stool does mean that he has colitis, which can be very serious if not fatal if not treated appropriately.
All the advice and home remedies are unlikely to solve your problem. GO TO THE VET. THEY ARE DOCTORS. NOT US ON YAHOO.
Again, not being able to afford it is not an excuse for not going to the vet. Also, most vets WILL NOT set up a payment plan (not charity). That is between you and your credit card(s).

it means you should take him to the vet. if you can't afford veterinary care, you never should have gotten him in the first place. I can't believe that you've seen bloody stools before but just waited for it to "go away." It could be anything from intestinal cancer that has advanced past treatment, to a simple matter like a food allergy that you could solve simply by change of diet, but you won't know until you go to a vet. Beg, borrow or steal the money and get your dog to the vet or be prepared for "your boy" to die a painful death. Pet ownership is a privilege and responsibility and part of that is financial responsibility.

Bloody stool could be anything from intestinal parasites to a serious medical issue. Since money is an issue, call your vet and ask if you can bring in a fresh stool sample to start with. It will not cost as much and it may be something simple that they can just give you meds for. Best of luck!
