can a dog cause your eyes harm?

Question

i have made the mistake of touching my eyes [mainly removing contact lenses and adjusting them while they're in, or rubbing] without washing my hands after i've played with my dog. she's a clean dog and i always rinse my eyes after i make this mistake [usually down to forgetfulness], but can this cause me real damage? i know that cat pooh can cause you blindness because of a certain bacteria/worm in their pooh, but i don't know about dogs and i know dogs play in the garden, where cats can wonder around and leave their mark, or are all pets vaccinated now a days?

am i being over-cautious? :(

my eyes seem normal at the moment.

I'm sure you are fine, but it is always good to make a habit of washing hands no matter what you touch!

No sadly, all pets are not vaccinated nowadays :-) Whoa would that be a cool world!

You really need to get into the habit of washing your hands well before handling contact lenses, or rubbing your eyes. I work in a vet surgery and wear contacts, I make sure I'm very careful. Even vaccinated and healthy animals carry bacteria, and you want to keep that OUT of your eyes!

I saw a programme on parasitology once at university. A guy in it had made the gargantuan error of washing his contacts in tap water - and he lost an eye. A parasite in the water had got into his eye and basically eaten it. If that's not enough of a warning to wash your hands before touching your eyes or contacts.....! Just get yourself into the habit and you'll find yourself unable to touch your eyes if your hands aren't clean.

You should always wash your hands after playing with your dog, if you are going to do anything with your eyes etc. Likely it's fine but why chance it.
Look at the hospitals and the problems they have with people not washing their hands... Cruise ships and people not washing their hands.. Generally it's a very good routine to get into, washing your hands.
But you aren't likely to get anything from your dog by touching your eye after, unless he had something on the coat, or had bacteria in the mouth, or some sort of illness.
But always wash your hands, it's just safer, why chance it!?

You should be fine. It's not like you actually touched your dog's poo and them stuck your finger in you eye. Let's face it, contacts are tricky little things, and we don't always have time to rush to the bathroom and washup, if the contact is about to fall out. Just wash your hands when you can, and if you can't just make sure your hands haven't been in or on anything completely disgusting. I pet my dog every morning and then proceed to put my contacts in, and I never really thought about it.

Its no more dangerous than touching things in the bathroom before you touch your eyes for contacts.

Try to remember to wash your hands (how do you forget that anyway?)

Some people whole have allergies could get irritated eyes from dog hair and gander, but in reality it can not harm you smore than just making your eyes water unless you are allergic to them.

if you touch a dog saliva that's bad if you touch dog WI that's very bad there no effect if you hold his or here body..
i experience once i play with my dog body and i rub my eyes its no effect at all!

dont do that wash ur hands after ur done playing w/ ur dog get into the routine of washing ur hands after ur done plating w/ the dog.

I think I would call the eye Dr. if I were you. Your eyes are too important to rely on these answers.
