I live in an apartment complex in Georgia, I see dogs all the time without their leashes and don't complain. Tonight I let my dog out for a second to do his business and my neighbor was coming back from a walk with his dog and both the dogs went at it. Granted, I was in the wrong, but I don't appreciate the neighbor yelling at me the way he did as I never normally go without my leash. We also have a neighbor who ALWAYS never puts on their dogs leash and he never yells at THAT dog. He threatened to call the cops on me. Can he do that? I thought that since apartments were technically private property cops can't handle that kind of thing...any opinions are appreciated...thanks. PS-after a few other problems i've had with this apartment complex, i'm probably moving anyway in the fall so won't be dealing with him much longer. (after living here a year and a half)

I have never done it before, was already in my nightgown, and didn't want to bother getting "dressed" to go on our walk. Looked like he only had to do #1 and I have a patchy area right in front of my apartment. I didn't see him coming up the walk, or I would've waited.

Private property or not, your dog needs to be contained and not running at large. You could probably get ticketed for your dog running at large and not being on a leash and if their dog would have gotten hurt, you could be held liable for the damages because your dog was not contained. It is understandable why he got mad, wouldn't you if you were following the leash law by having yuor dog on a leash and another dog came up and attacked him? I think it is always best to be safe and keep your dog on a leash for your dogs safety and also for your legal safety. Start complaining if you see peple without a leash on their dog, don't think it is okay for you to do just because they do!

The cops can write you a citation for having your dog off leash. Living in an apartment has nothing to do with it.

Please do not let your dog off leash again, especially since you obviously do not appreciate others doing it. You would be legally responsible for any damage caused by your dog. Your neighbor was in the right tonight and I hope you don't make the same mistake again.

Maybe the other dogs don't attack his, so that's why he ddin't yell at them. Who cares that you never did it before? You got yelled at for doing it tonight. And the police can get involved, which would probably get you evicted anyway.

Kind of hard to believe that you never let your dog off the leash, but suddenly tonight, you just opened the door and let him out.

The police probably won't get involved unless there is an injury or the dog is considered a nuisance. They would probably leave it to animal control. But If they do come by I would mention the verbal assault by the neighbor.

Plain and simple.. next time just keep the little guy on a leash. Yes the police could get involved so don't risk it!
