A wellbred, well socialized well trained Dane makes a great pet and is very friendly. Danes love people and love bein with their people. Many are diggers but some are not just like any other breed/mix of dog.
No Danes do not need a lot of room to run nor do they require a lot of exercise. Once they reach adulthood most prefer a comfy couch.

Great Danes make amazing pets, they are like one huge wad of love, the digging part depends on their nature, if you don't have a big backyard, just take it on walks a lot. Just remember, puppies are just like kids, if you are rude and hostile, they are going to grow up and not be good, but if you are kind and gentle, they will grow up to be good.

Depends on your definition of a "good" pet. of course they dig all dogs do... They are friendly if you raise them to be.... And YES they are "GREAT" Danes for a reason, they need a lot of exercise and space to play.
