as soon as i get my clothes on the floor on their way to the hamper, my little dog sets up camp and immediately sleeps on them! i'm not squeamish or anything (these clothes will be meeting the washing machine anyway), but i am concerned why he does this - should i view this as a sign of separation anxiety? please reply!

It smells like you! That's all - its nothing horrible. It just means that he loves you. It really isn't a sign of speration anxiety or anything like that. Everyone loves to be reminded of the ones you love - for people perhaps its a picture, or their loved ones hoodie or something. For dogs? It's sleeping on their owners clothes.

Plain and simple- they smell like you.

It could be a sign of separation anxiety... but usually that's also followed by crying, sometimes nervous urination, inability to relax, howling, lethargy while you are away, over excitement when you return.

For the most part... pets just want to be near you. Its a comfort thing. Not necessarily a separation anxiety thing. It but it does help with stress to smell you. That's why when we boarded pets at our clinic we always asked pet parents to bring an item of clothing for the dogs to sleep with if they'd be gone for more than the night.

I wouldn't worry too much unless he's displaying other signs.

No. My dogs and cats do the same thing. Your dirty clothes smell like you. For your critters, sleeping on your dirty clothes is the next best thing to sleeping in your lap--maybe even better. Your clothes don't get up to go to the bathroom. (I hope).

Maybe she likes the scent of her master, I don't know, but my dog sleeps on my clean or dirty clothes too.

My dogs do that too.
The clothes smell like you and s/he likes you and it's the next best thing to being in your lap. nothing's wrong with him. i'd advise keeping your underwear out of reach because they sometimes eat them.

This is not separation anxiety. It's just that clothing you have worn is stronger in your scent, and dogs are very scent oriented. He finds it comforting. It makes him feel closer to you.

It's not separation anxiety at all. In fact, you might even consider it normal that he is trying to cover himself in your scent. If anything, it's a mark of affection.

I'm sure because it smells like you! It's kind of like the next best thing to sleeping on your lap!

Take that as a sign of true love....they do that because the scent of you makes them feel all safe and secure. When you leave the house, make sure you leave something you wore laying around for him/her....take care!!
