We like to take our dogs with us any time we can. It's not cool to have him puking in the back seat.

Start off slowly. First, put your dog in your car, and just sit in the driveway. Later, turn the car on, and just sit there. Then, back out of the driveway. Then take a ride around the block. Then 2, etc. You do each step gradually to get your pup used to it. It's true, they grow out of it for the most part. Don't feed your pup right before you go on a trip also. Be sure that the vents are not directly on the dog either.

Good luck, I hope it all works out!

Most puppy grow out of that. If they don't, you can try a calming pill from the pet store or the vet, but I wouldn't recommend zonking your dog out everytime you took him in the car if it's as often as you say it is. A few more puke episodes and you should be ok. Just don't feed him a big meal before you go.

My dog used to get VERY carsick...just take her for short rides and gradually increase the amount of time. Thats what I did and she eventually grew out of it!

-Have your pup sit in a parked car with you. Allow him to explore the car, giving him lots of praise and treats.

-When you begin taking your pup in a moving car, start with short trips and gradually work up to longer drives.

-Avoid feeding your pup for several hours before a trip.

hope i helped!! i need to start doing this with my 5 month old pup!

i had the same problem with my 12wk old. i didnt feed him at least 4hrs before the ride. and i put him in a pop up holder so he would not see motion around him. now he can be in the car as long as 1 1/2 hours and be just fine. once you get to your destination and know you'll be there for awhile...feed and hydrate him. excersie him/her so that he could sleep in the car ride home.

Many dogs do outgrow this...

I don't think there is anything you can really do about it, except perhaps confine him in the back or in a crate until he gets over it.

You might consult a vet, perhaps he can suggest something.

I'm SO glad to hear you take your dogs places with you -- lucky dogs!! Good dog owner!!

if you are talking about taking your dogs for a long journey this is what my vet asked me to do to stop making my dog puke. just before we start we give him a very mild medicine usually for cough, allergy or vomitting . so he is kinda sleepy throught out the journey and he doesn't puke.

Mine did too, all over my brand new car, in places I was unable to fully reach. She outgrew it, as she got older. I limited the amount of car rides, taking her for rides only when absolutely necessary---vet, dog training classes. I saved "joy" rides for when she was older.

don't feed your dog for a few hours before you know you're going on a car trip. or feed them half as much as you usually do, and then feed them the rest when you get back.

Don't take her in the car, she is too young and will outgrow it when she is older, but she is just having a motion sickness problem while she is young.
